THE CHRISM MASS
The Chrism Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the
Angels on Monday, April 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM.
This Eucharist, presided over by the Archbishop accompanied by his
presbytery and the People of God, is the annual celebration of Christ’s
ministerial priesthood (the priests and bishops) and of the common priesthood
(all the baptized).
The holy oils that will be used in all parishes of the archdiocese will
be blessed that evening.
On that day we celebrate the Eucharist and all the sacraments in which
the Church reminds us, like Christ, we have been anointed: the Baptism, the
Confirmation, the Priesthood, and the Anointing of the sick.
In this Eucharist we demonstrate the communion among all the baptized,
the priests, and their bishop. The Chrism Mass is important because it is the
moment when the local Church comes together to show that the sacraments build
the Church, and that we live in communion because share the same bread, the
same cup, and the same anointing.
All the baptized are invited to participate in this beautiful mass where
we also demonstrate that we belong to a larger Church than our parish or our
small community.
Invite your friends and family, come early because the Cathedral will be
full, and take only one car because parking will be difficult.
I hope to see many parishioners from St. Sebastian in this diocesan
celebration.
Best wishes on the road to Easter.
