Fr. German’s Message

One of the practical fruits of Vatican Council II in the life of the Church has been the creation    of a Pastoral Council and a Financial Council in all dioceses and all parishes. The formation, operation and goals of these two councils have been well established by the Code of Canon Law published on January 25^th 1983.

In a simple way we can say that these two boards are the left and right arms of the bishop in the diocese and of the pastor in the parish.

Pastoral counseling and financial advice are essential for the manifestation of communion and to exercise joint responsibility between clergy and lay.

All baptized are responsible for the proclamation of the Gospel and the Pastoral and Financial Councils are responsible, with the bishop or the pastor, to plan, to implement and to evaluate the means by which the Gospel is proclaimed and lived in the territory that has been entrusted to it  and beyond its borders.

In Saint Sebastian’s parish we have a pastoral council and a financial council that meet regularly and are in frequent contact with me.

The next parish council meeting takes place on Wednesday February 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in the multipurpose room of the parish.

I take the opportunity of this meeting to invite all members of our parish to get involved in the activities that we propose to you.

All of you can participate in one way or another in the proper functioning of the parish.

First, we count on your prayer.

All our activities must be accompanied by prayer to put us always under the eye and light of the Holy Spirit.

Second, if you are part of a group or pastoral activity it is appropriate for anyone of your group to come to represent your group or activity.

Sharing our experiences helps us to grow, and together we can find new paths so your group or your activity grows in our midst.

Third, if you have ideas, projects, criticism (constructive) or praise to help us grow as a community, you can write and mail (1453 Federal Ave LA CA 90025) or by E-Mail (frgerman@stsebastian.net), phone (310 478 0136) or by speaking personally to me or a member of the pastoral council.

The pastoral council and I are happy when you are interested in the life of the community.

Do not hesitate to contact us so our parish continues to grow and that the Gospel may always be our first concern.

Mensaje del  P. Germán

Uno de los  resultados  prácticos del Concilio Vaticano II, en la vida de la Iglesia, ha sido el establecimiento, en todas las diócesis y parroquias,  de un consejo pastoral y  un consejo Económico. 

La conformación, organización,  funcionamiento y  objetivos de estos dos consejos  se encuentran bien definidos  en   el Código de Derecho Canónico publicado el 25 de enero de 1983.

De  manera simple, podemos decir que estos dos consejos son el brazo derecho y el brazo  izquierdo   del obispo en la diócesis y del párroco en la parroquia.

El consejo pastoral y el consejo económico son indispensables para que se manifieste la comunión, así como  el ejercicio de la corresponsabilidad entre el clero y los laicos.

Todos los bautizados  somos responsables del anuncio de la Buena Nueva y los consejos pastoral y económico, en colaboración con el obispo o con el párroco, están encargados  de planificar, ejecutar y evaluar los medios para que el Evangelio sea anunciado y vivido en el territorio que les ha sido confiado y más allá de sus fronteras.

En la parroquia de San Sebastián tenemos un consejo pastoral y un consejo económico que se reúnen regularmente y  están en contacto frecuente conmigo.

La próxima reunión del consejo pastoral tendrá  lugar el miércoles 15 de febrero de las 7:30 a las 9:30 pm en la sala polivalente de la parroquia.

Aprovecho   para invitar a todos los miembros de nuestra parroquia a involucrarse en las actividades que les proponemos.

Todos ustedes pueden participar de una manera u otra en el buen funcionamiento de la parroquia.

En principio, siempre iniciamos  con  una oración. Todas nuestras actividades deben acompañarse de la oración para colocarnos siempre bajo la mirada y la luz del Espíritu Santo.

Después, compartimos experiencias sobre actividades pastorales.  Así que si usted es  parte de un grupo o de alguna  actividad pastoral, es  importante que asista. Puede participar algún integrante   o representante del   grupo o  actividad pastoral que usted realiza en medio de la parroquia o al exterior de ella. Compartir las experiencias nos ayuda a crecer y juntos encontraremos nuevos caminos para que su grupo o su actividad crezca  en medio de nosotros.

Finalmente, si usted tiene alguna idea, proyecto, crítica (constructiva) o elogio que considere nos ayude  a crecer como comunidad, usted puede contribuir enviando sus ideas  por correo (1453 Federal Ave. LA CA 90025) o por correo electrónico  (frgerman@stsebastian.net). También puede hacerlo llamando al teléfono (310 478 0136) o bien  personalmente conmigo o con uno de los miembros del consejo pastoral. El consejo pastoral y yo mismo nos alegramos cuando usted se interesa a la vida de la comunidad.
