Fr. German’s Message

On Sunday, June 10, the Universal Church celebrates the feast of Corpus Christi, in other words, the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.

This is a good opportunity to talk about San Sebastian, our parish community.

We form the Body of Christ, which is visible here and now thanks to those who are baptized and gather every Sunday to express and nourish their faith.

We are able to nourish and express our faith thanks to our parish, which welcomes us with affection; teaches us; and sends us out into the world to give testimony of the presence of God in our lives.

You, as well as your humble servant, are proud to belong to this parish community of San Sebastian.

All of us feel responsible for the vitality and beauty of our community, which is made possible thanks to your presence and commitment.  Thank you.

In the American Church, the fiscal and pastoral year begins on July 1^st and concludes on the 30^th of June.  This means that we are very close to the end of the 2012 fiscal year and the beginning of the 2013 fiscal and pastoral year.

In the last eleven months, our parish has carried out several important pastoral events.  The liturgical feasts have been beautiful and filled with joy.  We have celebrated all of them with great merriment.  We have experienced the grace of having shared as a family a year of intense spiritual life, for we have celebrated baptisms, the Eucharist, confirmations, weddings, the anointing of the sick, and funerals.  We have also celebrated anniversaries, and we have prayed for our sick and for those of our acquaintance who have problems.

Thank you, Lord, for this parish community that welcomes us and to which we feel committed.

It is important to point out that, besides carrying out parochial activities, we have also taken action to maintain the parish facilities and to improve the areas we use for our activities.

We are happy today because we have a clean, beautiful and inviting church (despite the fact that the improvement jobs are not yet done).

I inform you that, so far, the pews and the kneelers have been restored and fixed; the floors have been changed and polished with a special treatment; the church’s bathrooms were given new furniture; and a system to save water was installed.  On another front, the statues in the interior of the church were restored:  Our Lady of Guadalupe, Saint Joseph, Saint Jude, and the Stations of the Cross.  The Saint Sebastian statue that is located outside the church was also restored.  Moreover, the sound system of the church was readjusted and the microphones were given maintenance.  Besides, the baptistery’s heating system was fixed; and the interior and exterior lights of the church and the announcement board that is outside our house of worship, were fixed and changed.  The church’s total expenses came to $24, 376. 93.

In the same way, we changed the kitchen floor of the rectory ($771. 08); built a bathroom for the new multipurpose sitting room; and we remade the garden and the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.

We also had to do several maintenance jobs in the parish office: the heating system and the thermostat had to be repaired. And this is not all.  We also avoided the collapse of the roof over the files room.  We have had to do maintenance jobs continuously in one place or another.  We spent a total of $9,341.29 in the parish’s sitting rooms.  These unforeseen but necessary expenditures ($34,489.30) have caused us to end the year with a $14,500.00 deficit ; and this is the reason why we are going to have a second collection on Saturday and Sunday, the 23rd and the 24th of June, respectively :  so we will not end the 2012 fiscal year with red numbers.

Mensaje del  P. Germán

El domingo 10 de junio la Iglesia Universal celebra la fiesta de Corpus Christi, la fiesta del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo

Esta es una buena ocasión para hablar de nuestra comunidad parroquial de San Sebastián.

Formamos el Cuerpo de Cristo el cual  es visible aquí y ahora gracias a los bautizados que se reúnen todos los domingos para expresar y para alimentar su fe.

Alimentamos y expresamos  nuestra fe gracias a nuestra  parroquia que nos recibe con afecto,  nos instruye y nos envía al mundo para dar testimonio de la presencia de Dios en nuestra vida.

Tanto ustedes como su servidor,  estamos orgullosos de pertenecer a esta comunidad parroquial de San Sebastián.

 Todos nosotros nos sentimos responsables de la vitalidad y  la belleza de nuestra comunidad. Todo ello  es posible  gracias a su presencia y a su compromiso personal. Gracias.

En la Iglesia americana, el año fiscal y pastoral empieza el 1º de julio y concluye  el 30 de junio.

Así pues, estamos muy cerca del final del año fiscal 2012 y del inicio del   año fiscal y pastoral 2013.

En los últimos once meses,  nuestra parroquia ha llevado a cabo  varios  eventos pastorales importantes. Las fiestas litúrgicas han sido hermosas y llenas de regocijo. Todas ellas  las hemos celebrado con gran alegría. Hemos tenido la gracia de un año de vida espiritual intensa compartida  siempre en familia.  De esta manera tuvimos la celebración de   bautizos, primeras comuniones, reconciliaciones, Eucaristías, confirmaciones, matrimonios, unción de enfermos y funerales. Hemos festejado aniversarios y hemos orado por nuestros enfermos y por las personas que tienen problemas y que conocemos.

Gracias Señor esta comunidad parroquial que nos recibe con afecto  y con  la cual nos sentimos comprometidos.

Además, de las actividades parroquiales, es importante señalar que también hemos llevado a cabo  acciones importantes para mantener en buen estado las instalaciones de la parroquia  y mejorar las áreas  que utilizamos para nuestras actividades.

Hoy estamos muy contentos porque tenemos  una iglesia limpia, hermosa y acogedora (a pesar de que no hemos terminado los trabajos).

Hasta ahora, les comunico que se han restaurado y arreglado  las bancas. Los reclinatorios han sido también renovados. Se cambiaron los pisos y se pulieron con un tratamiento especial. Se cambiaron los muebles de los baños de la iglesia, además se instaló  un sistema para economizar agua.

Por otro lado, se restauraron las  estatuas interiores (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, San José, San Judas y el Viacrucis).  La  estatua exterior de San Sebastián fue también restaurada.  El  sistema de sonorización de la iglesia fue re-equilibrado y se le dio  mantenimiento a los micrófonos. Se arregló el   sistema de calefacción del agua del bautisterio. Se repararon y cambiaron  las luces interiores y exteriores de la iglesia y del tablero de anuncios del exterior. En total, los gastos de la iglesia fueron de   $24.376,93

De igual manera, en  la casa parroquial cambiamos el suelo de la cocina ($771,08).

Construimos un baño para la nueva sala polivalente y volvimos a hacer el jardín y la gruta para Nuestra Señora de Lourdes.

En la oficina de la parroquia tuvimos varios trabajos de mantenimiento. La calefacción y el termostato  tuvieron que ser   reparados . Evitamos así también, el derrumbe del   techo de la sala de archivos. En un lado o en otro,   tuvimos continuamente trabajos de mantenimiento. En total gastamos en las salas parroquiales $ 9.341,29

Estos gastos imprevistos  ($34.489,30) pero necesarios, nos   hacen  terminar el año con un déficit de $14,500.00   Esta es la razón por la cual vamos a tener una segunda colecta el sábado 23 y el domingo 24 de junio para no terminar el año fiscal 2012 en números  rojos.
