Sharing
All Christians know that Lent is a special
time of prayer, fasting and sharing.
In this post I want to talk to you
particularly about sharing.
One of the core values in the life of every
man and woman is sharing.
We all have benefited from the generosity of
our parents, teachers, and friends who shared with us whatever they had and
whatever they were.
We have also benefited from the generosity of
anonymous donors who have built the hospitals and schools we frequent.
Many institutions operate thanks to the
generosity of those who share their wealth, time, and expertise.
The Church too operates thanks to your
generosity. The Church builds and manages hospitals, schools, shelters for
orphans, shelters for AIDS patients, shelters for elderly people, etc, and all
these activities are made possible thanks to the money you give.
Thank you. Thanks on behalf of all the people
around the world who benefit from your generosity.
The Diocese of Los Angeles participates of
the program Together in Mission.
All parishes are required to participate. Ten
percent of the parish’s budget is sent to the archdiocese so it can help
schools and Catholic parishes that need help to make ends meet.
Last year, 52 schools and 35 parishes in our
archdiocese were subsidized by Together in Mission. Some years ago both the
parish and the school of St. Sebastian needed money and the archdiocese could
help us with funds of this program.
This year our parish is participating with
the amount of US$ 13,494 and I am sure we will be able to collect it quickly.
Last year we rapidly reached our goal and actually surpassed it by a little
over US$ 1,500. The extra money is returned to the parish.
Thanks to you all. Your generosity encourages
us to continue our mission in this beautiful community that grows every day in
every way.
Let’s take advantage of this time of Lent to
realize that sharing is a way to thank the Lord for all that he gives us.
Sharing allow others, less fortunate than us, to live a better life.
Happy Year of Faith.
