Fr. German’s Message

In last week’s message I spoke about the importance of the Christian community in the life of all Christians.

If you have not read this message, you can find it at www.stsebastianla.org -or ask for a copy of it at the parish office. 

I do wish that all the faithful would read this text so that our parish will continue to grow as a community as it has been doing these last three years.

Speaking of community, I wish to share with you the joy of seeing one of our catechists named the best catechist of the year by the Pastoral Region of Our Lady of the Angels archdiocese.

Saturday, Oct. 23^rd at the annual regional congress of religious education, Rebeca Rivera received the PESCA (Excellence in Catechetical Service Award). Rebeca has been part of our parish since childhood. She took her own catechism classes here, and received her first communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation here.

Since then, she has participated as an assistant and then as a catechist of other children younger than herself. Her youth, her dynamism and her sense of humor play a big role in her being appreciated and listened to by the youth under her care.

Our parish is proud to count Rebeca as a member of its  catechist team and we take advantage of this regional recognition to say “thank you” for her testimony of life and for reminding us that all the baptized are responsible for the vitality of our community,

We will celebrate this recognition here at St. Sebastian on Sunday, Nov, 14^th. At the 12 o’clock Mass we will present Rebeca (symbolically) the Regional Pastoral award offered her on Oct. 23.

Also, we will take advantage of this occasion to thank and bless all the catechists who give their time to help young people discover the Gospel.

We also wish to remind  the entire community that the mission of announcing the Gospel and giving witness of the presence of God in the midst of us all is the duty of all the baptized. All the community of St. Sebastian rejoices with Rebeca because of this award and we hope that many young people and adults will commit themselves with us in the multiple ministries that the parish puts forth.

The parish, the community, is built with the help of each and everyone. You, too, have something to share with others. We await you.

Mensaje del  P. Germán

En el mensaje de la semana pasada hablé de la importancia de la comunidad cristiana en la vida de todos los cristianos.

Si usted no ha leído ese mensaje no tarde en ir a buscarlo en internet (www.stsebastianla.org) o de solicitarlo en la oficina de la parroquia. Quisiera que todos los fieles pudieran leer ese texto para que nuestra parroquia siga creciendo como lo ha hecho en estos últimos tres años.

Hablando de comunidad, quisiera compartir con ustedes la alegría al ver que una de las catequistas de nuestra parroquia fue nombrada, por la Region Pastoral Our Lady of the Angels, la mejor catequista del año.

El sábado 23 de octubre en el Congreso Regional anual de educación religiosa, Rebeca Rivera recibió el premio PESCA (Excellence in Catechetical Service Award). Rebeca hace parte de nuestra parroquia desde su infancia ; aquí hace su catecismo y recibe el sacramento de la Confirmación. Desde entonces ella participa como ayudante y luego como catequista de otros niños y jóvenes menores que ella. Su juventud, su dinamismo y su buen humor hacen que ella sea apreciada y escuchada por los jóvenes que están a su cargo.

Nuestra parroquia está orgullosa de contar con Rebeca en su equipo de catequistas y aprovechamos de este reconocimiento regional para decirle gracias por su testimonio y por recordarnos que todos los bautizados somos responsables de la vitalidad de nuestra comunidad.

El domingo 14 de noviembre vamos a celebrar en la parroquia este reconocimiento. En la misa de las doce del día vamos a entregarle a Rebeca (simbólicamente) el premio que la región pastoral le ofreció el 23 de octubre.

Aprovechamos también de esta ocasión para agradecer y bendecir todos los catequistas que dan de su tiempo para ayudar a los niños y a los jóvenes a descubrir el Evangelio.

También le recordaremos a toda la comunidad que la misión de anunciar el Evangelio y de dar testimonio de la presencia de Dios en medio de nosotros es un deber de todos los bautizados.

Toda la comunidad de San Sebastian se alegra con Rebeca por este premio y esperamos que muchos jóvenes y adultos se comprometan con nosotros en los múltiples ministerios que la parroquia propone.

La parroquia, la comunidad se construye con la ayuda de cada uno. Usted también tiene algo que compartir con los otros. Te esperamos.
