Fr. German’s Message

With this text I would like to invite you to pray for your priest and for the priestly vocations on this year consecrated by Benedict XVI to the priests.

PRAYER OF A LAY BROTHER FOR THE PRIESTS

“Lord, First of all, I want to thank you for these men who have accepted our priests and our parish priests. What we would have done if they would have chosen a quiet life, with a wife and a family? What if this would have been everywhere? Thanks, my Lord, for giving them the strength of sacrifice, the complete gift. Thanks to them, we can be nourished by the Bread of Life, form solid families and clean our consciences and die in peace. 

Thanks Lord, for the defects of our priests. Perfect people cannot stand weaknesses. People who are always healthy look down on people who are always ill. You have seen this better than us, my Lord!

Our priests are phenomena. They need to be educators for children, specialists in family issues for young couples, psychology specialists for adolescents, science teachers and sensitive in confessions, in meetings with men they have to deal with the Church’s problem as professors. In their visit to cultivated families, they need to discuss the latest trendy book, or else, they would think he does not know anything. With members of job unions or with the working-class they need to talk in all detail about the conflict of money and work. With those who are not Catholic, they need to be theologians and at the same time, strict and open and knowledgeable of history. Moreover, there are all the groups of the parish: the Legion of Mary, school, Catechism, assist the poor, the liturgy team, the choir…

I forgot that at the street they need to answer all the greetings received and smile even if they were half-dead.

I forgot that each Sunday they need to be orator, musicians and at times organists and during the week, electricians, carpenters, painter, cooks, etc…

Lord, make us judge these “universal specialists” with the indulgence that requires having this incoherent and inhuman program. Make us understand and be satisfied if our priest, from fourteen specialties, makes well a half or fourth part. Lord, help us understand the difficulty of our priests’ ministry. 

If my priest makes meetings with women, do not make me go to and tell neighbor that the parish is being ruled by ‘the weak gender’. If my priest succeeds at talking to children, that I do not go and tell the neighbors that he has a childish religion. If he gathers with men, that I don’t suspect that he is doing politics.

Help me, Lord, to forgive his impatience and mistakes. That I understand that I only have a priest to support and that the entire congregation has turned their back on him.

Help me Lord to show him that there are people on his side who are not indifferent to him.

Help me Lord to keep my prayer for the priests and religious callings.

This will be, without doubt the best of all”

Con este texto quisiera invitarlos a orar por su párroco y por las vocaciones sacerdotales en este año consagrado por Benedicto XVI a los sacerdotes.

ORACIÓN DE UN LAICO
POR LOS PÁRROCOS

“Antes de todo Señor, quiero agradecerte por estos hombres que han aceptado nuestros sacerdotes y nuestros párrocos. Si por casualidad hubieran escogido una vida tranquila, una esposa y una familia, nosotros que hubiéramos hecho? Y si en todas partes fuera así?  Gracias Dios mío de haberles dado la fuerza del sacrificio, el don total. Gracias a ellos, podemos alimentarnos del Pan de Vida, formar familias sólidas, limpiar nuestras conciencias y morir en paz.

Gracias Señor, por los defectos de nuestros párrocos. La gente perfecta no soporta las debilidades. La gente que tiene siempre buena salud desprecia los que viven enfermos. Tu has visto mejor que nosotros, Señor!

 Nuestros párrocos son unos fenómenos. Deben ser pedagogos con los niños, especialistas en las cuestiones de la familia para los jóvenes esposos, especialistas en sicología para los adolescentes. Maestros en las ciencias y delicados en el confesional, en las reuniones con hombres deben tratar el problema de la Iglesia como profesores, en las reuniones con señoras deben abril el Evangelio como especialistas. En sus visitas a las familias cultivadas, deben discutir del último libro a la  moda o si no van a creer que no sabe nada. Con los sindicalistas y con los obreros, deben tratar en todos sus detalles del conflicto del capital y del trabajo. Con los que no son católicos ellos deben ser teólogos y al mismo tiempo estrictos, abiertos y conocedores de la historia. Además hay todos los grupos de la parroquia: legión de Maria, la escuela, el catecismo, la ayuda a los pobres, los equipos litúrgicos, los coros,...

Se me olvidaba que en la calle deben contestar a todos los saludos que reciben y deben sonreír aunque estén medio muertos.   

Se me olvidaba que cada domingo deben ser oradores, músicos y a veces organistas y en semana deben ser electricistas, carpinteros, pintores, cocineros, etc.

Señor, has juzguemos a esos “especialistas universales” con la indulgencia que requiere ese programa incoherente e inhumano.

Has que comprendamos y estemos satisfechos si nuestro párroco, de catorce especialidades, hace bien la mitad o la cuarta parte.  Señor has que comprendamos la dificultad del ministerio de nuestros párrocos.

Si mi párroco hace reuniones con mujeres, has que yo no vaya a decirle a la vecina que la parroquia está gobernada por el sexo que pasa por débil. Si mi párroco hace bien las cosas con los niños que yo no le diga a los vecinos que él tiene una religión infantil. Si se reúne con señores que yo no sospeche que está haciendo política.

Ayúdame Señor a perdonarle sus impaciencias y sus errores. Que yo comprenda que yo tengo solo un párroco para soportar y que él tiene a todos los fieles sobre sus espaldas.

Ayúdame Señor a mostrarle que a su lado hay gente que no es indiferente.

Ayúdame Señor a perseverar en la oración por los sacerdotes y por las vocaciones.

Eso es sin duda lo mejor de todo”.
