Fr. German’s Message

The week from September 27^th to October 4^th is particularly rich in celebrations. The archangels, angels and saints that we are going to celebrate will help us discover God’s presence and his actions in our everyday life and will remind us that holiness is everyone’s vocation. Reading about the life of saints and discovering the path that they have followed can encourage us to settle down and be on the way to God.

Here are some words to stir your interest in reading about the angels and saints and searching their presence and actions in your life.

Tuesday September 29^th: Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael: The archangels are sent, the messengers from God, to remind us about their presence in the world and to show God’s care and concern about human kind whom he created to his image. Archangel Michael (a name that means similar to God) invites us to be what we are: “in God’s own image and likeness”. He is the patron of all security forces of the ill. Gabriel transmits us God’s strength: for God and with God, everything is possible. He went to Nazareth to announce to Mary that she was going to be the Messiah’s mother. He is the patron of all media and communalizations. Raphael is sent to heal us. He reminds us about the solidarity and presence of God in our sufferings and desire of the Lord to heal us of all evil. He is the patron of the travelers and the blind.

Wednesday the 30^th, Saint Jerome: monk, pastor and doctor of the Church. He lived in Rome and worked as the secretary of Pope Damasus. He died in Bethlehem where he retired to translate and comment on the Holy Scriptures so that people could participate in the liturgy using their language. He is the author of many comments on the Scriptures and the first translator of the Bible to Latin (The Vulgate) He is considered one of the 4 biggest doctors of the Latin Church. Jerome is the Patron of all Professors of the Bible. He said: “Ignoring the Scriptures is ignoring Christ”.

Thursday October 1^st, Saint Therese of the Infant Jesus: Therese entered the Carmelite order of Lisieux (France) when she was only 15 years old and died in the same convent on September 30^th, 1897 at the age of 24 due to tuberculosis.

In her autobiography “Story of a Soul”, Therese invites us to follow “the little path” that leads to the Lord. Therese said: “My vocation is love!... In the Heart of the Church, which is also my mother, I will be love. I have to do everything that way to make all my dreams come true”…

“After my death, I will let a rain full of roses fall. I will pass to my heaven making good on Earth.”

Patron of florists, of France and of the missioners because she spent her life to pray for men of all continents. She teaches us to not abandon the love to God Father.

Friday October 2^nd, the Guardian Angeles: in the bible it is frequently mentioned that angels accompany a person or a community of people. Angels are sent by God to protect us or to transmit us messages from the Lord. Personally, I love my guardian angel very much and I talk to him almost every day so that he could help me find the path that God wants me to follow and so that he could give me the needed strength to follow him.

Sunday October 4^th 27º time of the Church and Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. He was born in Assisi (Italy) in 1182 to a rich family of fabric merchants. His father was Italian and his mother French. During his childhood and youth he hated the poor and the ill. His life change when a repulsive leper crossed his path. He got out of his horse and gave half of his cape to the leper (since the other half belonged to the army) and immediately, he kissed the face of this poor man who was disfigured because of his leprosy. On an occasion, while he was praying in front of the crucifix of the ruined church of Saint Damien, he heard a voice that said: “Francis rebuilt my Church that, as you see, has been ruined.” Francis thought that this dealt with the building itself, but later he understood that his mission was to work for the Church to restore the simplicity of the Gospel: to the spirit of poverty and to God’s image in his poor. In his time, marked by the Crusades and other expressions of “sacred violence” Francis rejected all violence as an offense against the Gospel of love and the profanity of God’s image in all humankind.

Sisters Cristina, Catalina and Gloria follow Saint Francis rule. On October 4th, it is the feast of their Patron Saint. Let us pray for them and their congregation….

Mensaje del P. Germán

La semana del 27 de septiembre al 4 de octubre es particularmente rica en celebraciones. Los arcángeles, los ángeles y los santos que vamos a celebrar nos ayudan a descubrir la presencia y la  acción de Dios en la vida de todos los días y nos recuerdan que la santidad es la vocación de todos los hombres. Leer la vida de los santos y descubrir el camino que ellos siguieron nos anima a ponernos en camino.

Aquí tienen algunas palabras para despertar en ustedes el deseo de leer y de buscar la presencia y la acción de los ángeles y de los santos en su vida.

El martes 29 de septiembre: los Arcángeles Miguel, Gabriel y Rafael: los arcángeles son enviados, mensajeros de Dios para recordarnos su presencia en el mundo y para manifestarnos el cuidado de Dios sobre el hombre que creó a su imagen. El arcángel Miguel (nombre que quiere decir semejante a Dios) nos invita a ser lo que somos: “imagen y semejanza de Dios”. El es el patrón de las fuerzas de seguridad y de los enfermos. Gabriel trasmite la fuerza de Dios: para Dios y con Dios todo es posible. El fue a Nazaret a anunciar a Maria que sería la madre del Mesías. El es el patrón de los medios de comunicación. Rafael es enviado para sanarnos. El nos recuerda la solidaridad y la presencia de Dios en nuestros sufrimientos y el deseo del Padre de curarnos de todos los males. El es el patrón de los viajeros y de los ciegos.

El miércoles 30 San Jerónimo: monje, sacerdote y doctor de la Iglesia. Vivió en Roma y trabajaba como secretario del Papa Dámaso. Murió en Belén a donde se había retirado para traducir y comentar las Escrituras para que la gente pudiera participar en su idioma a la liturgia. El es el autor de numerosos comentarios de las Escrituras y el primer traductor de la Biblia al latín (La Vulgata). El es considerado como uno de los 4 más grandes doctores de la Iglesia Latina. Jerónimo es el Patrón de los profesores de la Biblia. El decía: “Ignorar las Escrituras es ignorar a Cristo”.

El jueves 1º de octubre Santa Teresita del niño Jesús: Teresita entró al Carmelo de Lisieux (Francia) cuando tenía apenas 15 años y murió en el mismo convento el 30 de septiembre de 1897 a la edad de 24 años a causa de la tuberculosis.

En su autobiografía “Historia de un alma”, Teresita nos invita a seguir  “el caminito” que conduce al Padre.  Teresita decía: “Mi vocación es el amor!... En el corazón de la Iglesia, que es mi madre, yo seré el amor. Así habrá de serlo todo y de esta manera se cumplirán mis sueños”…  “Luego de mi muerte dejaré caer una lluvia de rosas. Pasaré mi cielo haciendo el bien sobre la tierra”.

Patrona de los floristas, de Francia y de los misioneros ya que pasó su vida a orar por todos los hombres de todos los continentes. Ella nos enseña a abandonarnos al amor de Dios Padre.

El viernes 2 de octubre Los Ángeles Guardianes: en la biblia se habla frecuentemente de los ángeles que acompañaban a una persona o a un pueblo. Se trata de enviados de Dios para protegernos o para transmitirnos un mensaje del Señor.

Personalmente yo quiero mucho mi ángel guardián y le hablo casi todos los días para que me ayude a encontrar el camino que Dios quiere que siga y para que me de la fuerza necesaria para seguirlo.

Domingo 4 de octubre 27º del tiempo de la Iglesia y fiesta de San Francisco de Asís. Nació en Asís (Italia) en 1182 en una familia rica comerciante de telas. Su padre era italiano y su madre francesa. Durante su infancia y su juventud odiaba a los pobres y a los enfermos. Su vida cambió cuando se encontró en su camino con un repugnante leproso. Bajó de su caballo y le dio al leproso la mitad de su capa (ya que la otra mitad pertenecía al ejército) y enseguida besó el rostro de ese pobre hombre desfigurado por la lepra. En una ocasión, mientras rezaba frente al crucifijo de la arruinada iglesia de San Damián, escuchó una voz que le decía: “Francisco, repara mi Iglesia que, come ves, ha caído en la ruina”. Francisco creyó que se trataba del edificio pero luego comprendió que su misión era de trabajar para que la Iglesia volviera a la simplicidad del Evangelio: al espíritu de pobreza y a la imagen de Cristo en sus pobres. En su época marcada por las cruzadas y por otras expresiones de “violencia sagrada”, Francisco rechazó toda violencia como una ofensa contra el mandamiento de amor del Evangelio y la profanación de la imagen de Dios en todos los seres humanos.

Las hermanas Cristina, Catalina y Gloria siguen la regla de San Francisco. El 4 de octubre es la fiesta de su Santo Patrón. Oremos por ellas y por su congregación.
