Fr. German’s Message

 

Since Thursday, September 2^nd, the community of the Franciscan

Sisters of the Immaculate Conception has completed its rotation here at St. Sebastian.

Sister Catalina left us in July and Sister Gloria left on the 1^st of September. They gave much to the parish and we are greatly saddened by their departure but we know that in the religious life one has to be ready and willing to go where the Church beckons.

Sister Catalina and Sister Gloria were participants in all the activities of the parish but I wish to reiterate my acknowledgement of Sister Catalina for her help in catechesis and Sister Gloria for her help with the poor and homeless who always found her to be most supportive. Thank you both again, and may the Lord accompany you in your new missions.

Along with Sister Cristina, we have had the pleasure of welcoming Sister Beatrice Ogaz and Sister Angelica Tiscareño, who have come to live and share their faith with us. Sister Yolanda Yañez, will also be with us on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The Sisters come with much experience and we will take advantage of their presence in order to continue to announce the Good News of the Gospel.

We welcome them and hope that all will profit from their kindness and their presence among us.

Everyone has witnessed the growth of our parish these last three years. Each day there are more activities, and the numbers of children, youth and adults that participate in the life of the parish grows each day. The parish premises are too small to achieve our mission in the face of all that has made our parish family grow.

As you all know, the school premises belong to the parish, but at this time they are administered independently of the parish, and we do not want to use the school facilities very often in order to facilitate the proper functioning of one and the other.

Consequently, we have decided to construct a hall, in the garden area of the parish center, which will permit us to welcome children, youth and adults to a variety of functions.

This hall, which can be adapted to fit three classrooms, will permit us to have catechesis during the week,  as well as group meetings (e.g., parish council, finance committee, prayer groups, Legion of Mary, Guadalupanas, etc.). It will be available to share a cup of coffee after Mass, celebrate anniversaries, or share a dinner with members of the parish.

The cost of this facility is $100,000 and we are sure that from now until Christmas 2010, we will raise this amount so as not to begin the year 2011 in debt.

I entrust this project to Mary, our mother, and to each one of you. Your participation is important. This parish is yours and we should all feel responsible for the pastoral and other activities that we organize to continue to proclaim and live the Gospel. Mensaje del  P. Germán

Desde el jueves 2 de septiembre, la comunidad de hermanas franciscanas de la Inmaculada Concepción de San Sebastian está completa.

La hermana Catalina se fue en julio y la hermana Gloria el 1º de Septiembre. Ellas aportaron mucho a la parroquia y a las personas que la frecuentan y sentimos mucho su separación pero sabemos que en la vida religiosa hay que estar disponible para ir allá a donde la Iglesia nos llama. La hermana Catalina y la hermana Gloria estuvieron presentes en todas las actividades de la parroquia pero yo quisiera simplemente volver a decir mi reconocimiento hacia la hermana Catalina por su ayuda en la catequesis y a la hermana Gloria por su presencia con los pobres y con las personas sin hogar que encontraban siempre en ella un apoyo. Gracias y que el Señor las acompañe en sus nuevas misiones.

Con la hermana Crsitina, tuvimos el gusto de acoger a la hermana Beatriz Ogaz y a la hermana Angélica Tiscareño que vienen para vivir y compartir con nosotros su fe. La hermana Yolanda Yañez, que de vez en cuando está en San Sebastian, estará también con nosotros los viernes, sábados y domingos.

Las hermanas llegan con su gran experiencia y vamos a aprovechar de su presencia para continuar a anunciar la Buena Nueva del Evangelio.

Les deseamos la bienvenida y esperamos que todos aprovechen de su amabilidad y de su presencia en medio de nosotros.

Todos son testigos del crecimiento de nuestra parroquia en estos 3 años. Cada día hay más actividades y el número de niños, de jóvenes y de adultos que participa a la vida de la parroquia es cada día más importante. Los locales de la parroquia son muy pequeños para realizar nuestra misión frente a todos aquellos que han hecho crecer nuestra familia parroquial.

Ustedes saben que los locales de la escuela pertenecen a la parroquia pero por el momento están a la disposición de un grupo de personas que administra la escuela de manera independiente de la parroquia y no queremos utilizar mucho los locales de la escuela para facilitar el funcionamiento de unos y otros.

Hemos decidido construir una sala, en el jardín del centro parroquial, que nos permitirá acoger a los niños,   a los jóvenes y a los adultos.

Esta sala, que se podrá adaptar en tres salas, nos permitirá realizar el catecismo en la semana, acoger grupos de reuniones (consejo pastoral, económico, grupos de oración, legión de Maria, guadalupanas,…) compartir un café después de la misa, celebrar un aniversario o compartir una cena con los miembros de la parroquia.

El costo de esta operación es de $100.000,oo y estamos seguros que de aquí a la navidad (2010) completaremos esta cantidad para no empezar el año 2011 endeudados.

Le confío este proyecto a María nuestra madre y a cada uno de ustedes. Su participación es importante. Esta parroquia es suya y todos debemos sentirnos responsables de la pastoral y de las actividades que organizamos para continuar a anunciar y a vivir el Evangelio. Gracias por su ayuda y que el Señor bendiga su generosidad.
