St Sebastian’s
Feast 2021
On Wednesday,
January 20th, the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Sebastian. Sebastian
was a young soldier of the Roman army martyred in the Third century by the
Roman Empire. The Emperor loved him and admired him for his loyalty, his
personality, and his desire to serve others always. When the Emperor learned
that Sebastian had become a disciple of Christ, he asked him to deny his
faith.
Sebastian did
not want to do it, and the Emperor asked that he be killed by archers.
He is known for
having saved Rome from the plague in the 7th century and is considered the
patron of epidemics. He is a model defender of freedom of worship. He is a
Saint for today.
Sebastian is
also the patron of our community. He is an example for us. He invites us to
take care of others and of creation and to share our faith with others in all
our activities. Sebastian reminds us that we must feel proud to be followers
of Christ and that the service of others is the best way to manifest our
identity as Christians.
I invite you to
celebrate the Feast of Saint Sebastian on Sunday, January 17th at 10am. We
will celebrate a tri-lingual Eucharist and there will be surprises for all.
The three
linguistic communities and Saint Sebastian School will be together to share a
moment of fraternity and prayer.
See you soon.
