The community

After the summer holidays, all activities started again.

Communities that had closed their doors because of the coronavirus or the holidays have reopened, and life is back to how it was before.

During the crisis, we moved away from our communities. We were forced and we learned to carry out many activities alone, which we used to do as a community.

Now that everything is open, we must return to our communities.

There are adults, youth, and children who got used to it and who found pleasure in living without the community.

There are people who got used to working alone, at home and at a distance from their work community.

There are people who got used to studying alone, at home and at a distance from their study community.

There are musicians who got used to playing alone, at home and at a distance from their community of musicians.

There are families that got used to living alone, at home and at a distance from their community of friends.

There are faithful who got used to praying alone, at home and at a distance from their parish community.

Internet helped us a lot. Social media and all new communication techniques were highly appreciated by all, and we thank science for having offered us these means to maintain our human relationships in this time of crisis.

But the time has come to return to our communities. We need personal contacts. We need to meet in person to work, to learn, to love each other, and to live.

Nothing can replace a meeting between two people who look each other directly in the eyes to say important things.

We cannot exchange a meeting between two people for a video conference, even if the screen is very large.

The school no longer has Zoom teaching because all the specialists say that children need, in their training, encounters with other children their age, older and younger than themselves and personal encounters with their teachers.

In the parish we no longer have Mass broadcast on YouTube or Facebook because we are convinced that the encounter with God is made in active participation in the Eucharist and in the encounter in person with the Christian community.

Now we must rejoice that we can reintegrate our communities. Now we must strive, if necessary, to return to our communities.

We are men and women born into a community called the parents. We have grown up in the middle of a community called the family. We learned to be adults in a community called the school. We work in a community called society. We live in a community called the country and the world. We pray in a community called the Church.

I take this opportunity to remind you that all California citizens are invited to vote for or against the governor of this state. This is a concrete example in which the community needs each one of us.

Communities need our presence and action, and we need the communities.

Don't stay home like you used to. Go back to your communities to discover the joy of living in fraternity.

Mensaje del P. Germán

La comunidad

Después de las vacaciones de verano, todas las actividades recomenzaron.

Las comunidades que habían cerrado sus puertas, a causa del coronavirus o de las vacaciones han reabierto y la vida vuelve a ser como antes.

Durante la crisis, nos alejamos de nuestras comunidades. Nos vimos obligados y aprendimos a realizar solos muchas actividades, que hacíamos antes en comunidad.

Ahora que todo está abierto, debemos regresar a nuestras comunidades.

Hay adultos, jóvenes y niños, que se acostumbraron y descubrieron el gusto de vivir sin la comunidad.

Hay personas que se acostumbraron a trabajar solas, en casa y a distancia de su comunidad de trabajo.

Hay gente que se acostumbró a estudiar sola, en casa, a distancia de su comunidad de estudios.

Hay músicos que se acostumbraron a tocar solos, en casa y a distancia de su comunidad de músicos.

Hay familias que se acostumbraron a vivir solas, en casa y a distancia de su comunidad de amigos.

Hay fieles que se acostumbraron a rezar solos, en casa, a distancia de su comunidad parroquial.

Internet nos ayudó bastante. Los medios sociales y todas las nuevas técnicas de comunicación fueron muy apreciadas por todos y agradecemos a la ciencia por habernos ofrecido esos medios para mantener nuestras relaciones humanas en este tiempo de crisis.

Pero el tiempo llegó para regresar a nuestras comunidades. Necesitamos contactos personales. Necesitamos vernos en persona para trabajar, para aprender, para amarnos y para vivir.

Nada puede remplazar un encuentro entre dos personas que se miran directamente a los ojos, para decirse cosas importantes.

No podemos cambiar un encuentro entre dos personas por una videoconferencia, aunque la pantalla sea muy grande.

La escuela ya no tiene enseñanza por Zoom, porque todos los especialistas dicen que los niños necesitan, en su formación, encuentros con otros niños de su edad, más grandes y más pequeños que ellos y encuentros personales con sus profesores.

En la parroquia ya no tenemos transmisión de la Misa por YouTube o por Facebook, porque estamos convencidos de que el encuentro con Dios se hace en la participación activa en la Eucaristía y en el encuentro en persona con la comunidad de cristianos.

Ahora tenemos que alegrarnos, porque podemos regresar a nuestras comunidades. Ahora debemos esforzarnos, si es necesario, para volver a nuestras comunidades.

Somos hombres y mujeres nacidos en una comunidad que se llama los padres de familia. Hemos crecido en medio de una comunidad que se llama la familia. Aprendimos a ser adultos en una comunidad que se llama la escuela. Trabajamos en una comunidad que se llama la sociedad. Vivimos en una comunidad que se llama el país y el mundo. Oramos en una comunidad que se llama la Iglesia.

Aprovecho para recordarles que todos los ciudadanos de California están invitados a votar por o contra el gobernador de este estado. Este es un ejemplo concreto en el cual la comunidad necesita de cada uno de nosotros.

Las comunidades necesitan nuestra presencia y acción y nosotros necesitamos de ellas.

No se quede en casa como antes. Regrese a sus comunidades para descubrir la alegría de vivir la fraternidad.
