Fr German’s message THE MISSION TODAY
On July 18 we had a message about the mission in the parish bulletin and a week later, Father Pedro, a missionary, who had written the message, came to the parish to tell us about the Mission and share with us his faith and experience in missionary life. "The Church is missionary by nature." By nature, all the baptized are missionaries. From the moment of baptism and with each one of the sacraments, God entrusts to us, through the Church, the mission of his Son: to go to the whole world to announce the Good News. Today, after the coronavirus crisis, I invite you to discover the mission of each one. For some months now, we have returned to an "almost normal" life. We have returned to the restaurant, to the theater, to schools, to the supermarket, to the beach, to our friends' house… Have we returned to the Church? She has also reopened its doors since mid-June. In our parish, we continue to respect distancing and do everything we can to help the authorities make the virus disappear. I am sure that soon you will be happy to return to Church for a child's baptism, to celebrate a birthday, to bless your marriage or for some other important event in your life. You will find the church open if the Christians return to maintain the life of the community. Many churches will close their doors if Christians are not plentiful enough to make a living, welcoming and joyful community exist next to a building. Our mission today is to bring life back to our churches and our communities that were closed for a long time because of the pandemic. Today we also have another mission in Saint Sebastian. Every week I carefully write a homily that can help you better understand God's Word and nurture your faith. In addition to the homily, I write, every week, a message in which I deal with a topic of general and current interest. Both the homily and the weekly message are published on the internet (http://www.stsebastianla.org/), We print them in the bulletin that you can take at the door of the church, and we send them by email to all the people who have entrusted us with their email address. Your mission as a member of our community is to help us retrieve the emails of many people who may be interested in our publications. Ask your family members and friends to see if they receive our email communications. Tell them that if they have already given us their email and they do not receive our information, it is possible that our email is in spam. If they have not given us their email and if they are interested in our information, they can send it to us, and we will add their email to our address list. It is always possible to unsubscribe, if the person is no longer interested in our information. We also have a list of people who have expressed their desire to be aware of the life of the parish and who do not have internet. We are mailing them the parish bulletin and homily. We would like all those interested in the life of our community and in the life of the Church to be able to take advantage of what we write every week. These are the two missions for today: To return to the Church and help us to transmit the Sunday homily and the weekly message to many people. Do not forget that we are all “by nature” missionaries and that the mission that I entrust to you today is not complicated and will give life back to our community and to the Church that your children and grandchildren will find tomorrow. El 18 de julio, tuvimos en el boletín parroquial un mensaje sobre la misión y una semana después, el Padre Pedro, misionero, que había escrito el mensaje, vino a la parroquia, para hablarnos de la Misión y compartir con nosotros su fe y experiencia, en la vida misionera. “La Iglesia es por naturaleza misionera.” Desde la carta apostólica « Maximum Illud » del 30 de noviembre de 1919 del Papa Benedicto XV, el decreto “Ad Gentes ” del Concilio Vaticano II del 7 de diciembre de 1965, la exhortación apostólica “ Evangelii Nuntiandi ” del 8 de diciembre de 1975 de San Pablo VI, la encíclica “ Redemptoris Missio “ del 7 de diciembre de 1990 de San Juan-Pablo II y la exhortación apostólica « Evangelii Gaudium » del 24 de noviembre del 2013 del Papa Francisco, el Magisterio de la Iglesia no cesa de invitar todos los bautizados, a ser misioneros activos para transformar el mundo y la Iglesia. Por naturaleza, todos los bautizados son misioneros. Desde el bautizo y con cada uno de los sacramentos, Dios nos confía, por intermedio de la Iglesia, la misión de su Hijo: ir al mundo entero anunciando la Buena Nueva. Hoy, después de la crisis del coronavirus, los invito a descubrir la misión de cada uno. Desde hace algunos meses, hemos regresado a una vida “casi normal”. Hemos regresado al restaurante, teatro, escuelas, supermercado, playa, casa de nuestros amigos… ¿Hemos regresado a la Iglesia? También ha reabierto sus puertas desde mediados de junio. En nuestra parroquia, seguimos respetando los distanciamientos y hacemos todo lo posible, para ayudar a las autoridades a desaparecer el virus. Estoy seguro de que dentro de poco ustedes estarán felices, de regresar a la Iglesia para el Bautismo de un niño, celebrar un cumpleaños, bendecir su matrimonio o por algún otro evento importante de su vida. Encontrarán la iglesia abierta, si los cristianos regresan para mantener la vida de la comunidad. Muchas iglesias cerrarán sus puertas, si los cristianos no son suficientes para asegurar al lado un edificio (la iglesia), una comunidad viva, acogedora y alegre de celebrar. Nuestra misión hoy es la de devolver la vida a nuestras iglesias y a nuestras comunidades que estuvieron cerradas por mucho tiempo, a causa de la pandemia. También tenemos hoy otra misión en San Sebastián. Todas las semanas, escribo con mucha atención una homilía que pueda ayudarlos a comprender mejor la Palabra de Dios y a alimentar su fe. Además de la homilía escribo, cada semana, un mensaje en el cual trato temas de interés general y de actualidad. Tanto la homilía como el mensaje semanal son publicados en internet (http://www.stsebastianla.org/), los imprimimos en el boletín que pueden tomar en la puerta de la iglesia y los enviamos por email, a todas las personas que nos han confiado su dirección email. Su misión como miembro de nuestra comunidad es de ayudarnos, a recuperar el correo electrónico de muchas personas que pueden estar interesadas en nuestras publicaciones. Pregunte a los miembros de su familia y a sus amistades, si reciben nuestras comunicaciones por email. Dígales que si ya nos dieron su email y no reciben nuestra información. Es posible que nuestro correo se encuentre en los correos indeseables. Si no nos han proporcionado su email y están interesados en nuestra información, pueden enviárnoslo y los incluiremos en nuestra lista de direcciones. Siempre es posible des inscribirse, si la persona ya no está interesada en nuestra información. También tenemos una lista de personas que nos han manifestado, su interés de estar al tanto de la vida de la parroquia y que no tienen internet. Les estamos enviando por correo postal el boletín de la parroquia y homilía. Quisiéramos que todas las personas interesadas en la vida de nuestra comunidad y en la vida de la Iglesia, puedan aprovechar de lo que escribimos todas las semanas. Estas son las dos misiones para hoy. Regresar a la Iglesia y ayudarnos a trasmitir la homilía dominical y el mensaje semanal a muchas personas. No olvide que todos somos “por naturaleza” misioneros y que la misión que les confío hoy no es complicada y les devolverá la vida a nuestra comunidad y a la Iglesia, que tanto sus hijos como nietos encontrarán mañana.
