Our Lady of Paris

The first day of my last trip to Paris I rushed to have a virtual experience that illustrates the works of Our Lady. (Arche de la défense. Paris https://www.eternellenotredame.com)

We all have in our memory April 15, 2019, when Our Lady of Paris was almost destroyed by flames. The excitement provoked by that event around the world pleasantly surprised all observers.

Thanks to modern techniques, today we can virtually visit the works of Our Lady. It is an unforgettable experience. For an hour and a half, they tell us the story of Our Lady, from the laying of the first stone on March 24, 1163, to the present day. They make us visit, virtually, the construction works in the Middle Ages and the current restoration works that try to rebuild this jewel of humanity, using original materials, to rebuild Notre Dame as she was before the fire. They allow us to witness important moments that the cathedral lived. Like the entrance of Saint Louis, King of France, who crossed the cathedral barefoot to deposit in it the relics of the Crown of Thorns that He had brought from Jerusalem. Those relics were saved from the fire thanks to the firefighters who recovered them intact the very night of the tragedy.

At the time of the fire, our parish participated with a small gift in the reconstruction. I remember that I went to Paris to deliver our check in the hands of Bishop Aupetit who was the Bishop of Paris at the time. Several members of our community are involved in an association called "The Friends of Our Lady". They are in charge of collecting funds in the United States to participate in the reconstruction of Our Lady. They are organizing a dinner on October 4 at the Residence of France in Los Angeles.

Our Lady of Paris belongs to all humanity, not just to believers. She is a privileged witness of what men and women of all times have done to manifest, through art and teamwork, the beauty of God's presence in our midst. Have a great week.

Nuestra Señora de Paris

El primer día de mi último viaje a Paris, me precipité para vivir una experiencia virtual que habla de los trabajos de Nuestra Señora. (Arche de la défense. Paris https://www.eternellenotredame.com)

Todos tenemos en nuestra memoria el recuerdo de ese 15 de abril del 2019, cuando La Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Paris fue casi completamente destruida por las llamas. La emoción causada por ese evento, en el mundo entero, sorprendió agradablemente a todos los observadores,

Gracias a las técnicas moderna, hoy podemos visitar virtualmente, los trabajos en La Catedral de Nuestra Señora. Es una experiencia inolvidable. Durante una hora y media, nos narran la historia, desde que colocaron la primera piedra el 24 de marzo de 1163, hasta nuestros días. Nos hacen visitar, virtualmente, los trabajos de construcción en la edad media y los de restauración actuales, que buscan reconstruir esa joya de la humanidad, de una manera idéntica a la que existía, antes del incendio y utilizando materiales originales. Nos permiten vivir momentos importantes que vivió la catedral. Como la entrada de San Luis rey de Francia, que atravesó la catedral descalzo para depositar en ella las reliquias de la Corona de Espinas, que habían traído de Jerusalén. Esas reliquias se salvaron del fuego, gracias a los bomberos que las recuperarían intactas la noche misma de la tragedia.

En el momento del incendio, nuestra parroquia participó con una pequeña donación para la reconstrucción. Recuerdo que fui a Paris a entregar nuestro cheque, en sus propias manos a Mons. Aupetit que era el Obispo de Paris en ese momento. Varios miembros de nuestra comunidad están comprometidos con una asociación que se llama «Los amigos de Nuestra Señora». Ellos están encargados de recoger fondos en Estados Unidos, para participar en la reconstrucción de La Catedral de Nuestra Señora. Están organizando una cena el 4 de octubre en la Residencia de Francia, en Los Ángeles.

Nuestra Señora de Paris, pertenece a toda la humanidad. No solamente a los creyentes. Es un testigo privilegiado de lo que hombres y mujeres de todas las épocas han hecho para manifestar, por medio del arte y del trabajo en equipo, la belleza de la presencia de Dios en medio de nosotros.
