Confirmations. 

On Saturday May 22, 2021, in the school parking lot, we will have the pleasure of welcoming Bishop Thomas Curry.

Bishop Curry is Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles, retired since April 3, 2018.

The bishop knows us because he came in 2017 to confer the sacrament of confirmation to 33 young people from our parish. We welcome him and thank him for agreeing to preside over this important celebration for the 28 youth of the parish and for our community.

Last year we had to report the confirmations that were scheduled for May. Thirty-seven young people were to receive Confirmation. We had the bishop's dispensation to celebrate the sacrament ourselves in two groups: one on June 15 and the other on June 22. Unfortunately, these dates were reported again due to the health situation. Finally, on August 16, we were able to celebrate the sacrament in the school parking lot. Of the 37 planned youth, only 13 were able to receive the sacrament. The others preferred to wait and received it during the Easter festivities this year or they will receive it at the celebration on May 22 with Bishop Curry.

This year we decided to hold the celebration at noon and in the school parking lot to be able to receive a significant number of people. It is very important that the community is present to accompany the young people who accept to be fully Christians and who commit themselves to being the temple of the Holy Spirit present in the world.

These confirmed young people fully integrate the community to become with all of us, missionaries of the Good News.

As you know, in the Catholic Church there are seven sacraments. Each sacrament can be celebrated alone. It is not mandatory that a sacrament be celebrated in the Eucharist.

We can celebrate a baptism without Mass and that is done frequently. There may be a marriage without mass and that is becoming more and more every day, especially when one or both fiancés do not practice regularly. The anointing of the sick and reconciliation are celebrated regularly outside the Eucharist. The priesthood is frequently celebrated in the middle of a Mass, but this is not an obligation. It is also possible to celebrate Confirmation without the Eucharist.

In common agreement with Bishop Curry, we decided to celebrate this year the Sacrament of Confirmation without the Eucharist.

The celebration of only one sacrament allows us to focus all our attention on the sacrament that we are celebrating without increasing other rites and prayers that must accompany the Eucharist.

I hope that we will be very numerous on Saturday May 22 at noon to pray and accompany the young people who are going to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit through the anointing of the Holy Chrism and the laying on of hands.

Confirmaciones.

 

 

El sábado 22 de mayo del 2021, en el estacionamiento de la escuela, tendremos el gusto de recibir a Mons. Thomas Curry.

Mons. Curry es obispo auxiliar de los Ángeles, retirado desde el 3 de abril del 2018.

El obispo nos conoce porque vino el 10 de junio del 2017, para conferir el Sacramento de Confirmación a 33 jóvenes de nuestra parroquia. Le damos la bienvenida y le agradecemos, por haber aceptado presidir esta importante celebración, para los 28 jóvenes de la parroquia y para nuestra comunidad.

El año pasado, tuvimos que reportar las confirmaciones que estaban previstas en el mes de mayo. Treinta y siete jóvenes deberían de haber recibido la Confirmación. Tuvimos la dispensa del obispo para poder celebrar nosotros mismos, el sacramento en dos grupos: uno el 15 y el otro el 22 de junio. Desafortunadamente estas fechas fueron reportadas nuevamente, a causa de la situación sanitaria. Al final, el 16 de agosto, pudimos celebrar el sacramento en el estacionamiento de la escuela. De los 37 jóvenes previstos, solamente 13 pudieron recibir el sacramento. Los demás, prefirieron esperar y lo recibieron durante las fiestas pascuales de este año o lo van a recibir en la celebración del 22 de mayo con Mons. Curry.

En este año decidimos hacer la celebración al medio día y en el estacionamiento de la escuela, para poder recibir un número importante de personas. Es muy importante que la comunidad esté presente para acompañar los jóvenes, que aceptan ser cristianos y que se comprometen a ser el templo del Espíritu Santo presente en el mundo.

Estos jóvenes confirmados integran plenamente la comunidad para ser, con todos nosotros, misioneros de la Buena Nueva.

Como ustedes los saben, en la Iglesia Católica hay siete sacramentos. Cada sacramento puede celebrarse solo. No es obligatorio que un sacramento sea celebrado en la Eucaristía.

Podemos celebrar un Bautismo sin Misa y eso se hace frecuentemente. Puede haber un matrimonio sin misa y eso se hace cada día más, sobre todo cuando uno o los dos comprometidos, no practican regularmente. La unción de los enfermos y la reconciliación se celebran regularmente al exterior de la Eucaristía. El sacerdocio es celebrado frecuentemente en medio de una Misa, pero esto no es una obligación. También es posible celebrar la Confirmación sin la Eucaristía.

En común acuerdo con Mons. Curry decidimos celebrar este año, el Sacramento de la Confirmación sin Eucaristía.

La celebración de un sacramento, nos permite focalizar toda nuestra atención en el sacramento que estamos celebrando, sin aumentar otros ritos y oraciones que deben acompañar la Eucaristía.

Espero que seremos muy numerosos el sábado 22 de mayo al medio día, para orar y acompañar los jóvenes que van a recibir los dones del Espíritu Santo, por medio de la unción del Santo Crisma y de la imposición de manos.
