New Means of Communication

Last week I received, on my cellphone, a video sent to me by someone that I know well.

I am sure that the person that sent it had not thought it through before sending the 7-minute video on the phone to a lot of people.

I did not watch it to the end. It was too long, in bad taste, and I would even say: vulgar.

So I got on the phone to talk to the person that had sent this message. The person told me that at any rate the video showed a reality that existed in our world and that the person who had sent it to them had also asked them to pass it on.

I think we should be careful with all the messages that we receive. There are many that just deserve to be thrown away. It seems to me that we should not share every message that people ask us to pass along to our list of contacts.

As a Christian I refuse to share all the negative comments about our humanity, all the messages where people are not respectful of the dignity of men and women and all the messages which we are not sure are based on truth.

There are many messages that spread racism, hate, distrust, and fear.

I am happy when I receive a wonderful message that showcases creation and our humanity.

I am ready to share messages that have hope and announce good news.

Moreover, I do not wish to spend my time on the phone filtering through the multitude of messages that we currently receive. I believe there are other things to do in life that are more important than spending one’s time reading, listening to, or watching a multitude of texts that we forget about once we read, listen to, or watch them.

Today, we possess powerful means of communication. We can share news very fast and with thousands of people at the same time.

During this season of Lent, let us make the most of it by using all the means of communication at our disposal to share good news.

Let us be brief in our messages and let us use beautiful pictures of nature, our humanity, and our planet.

With a wonderful message, we can put joy and a zest for life back into the lives of many people who are suffering, alone, or overwhelmed in difficulties.

Let us be messengers of good news. Let us be prophets of happiness. Let us be disciples of Christ and let us work with Him so the Good News and the Gospel are shared with people everywhere.

Los nuevos medios de comunicación.

La semana pasada recibí, en mi teléfono celular, un video de alguien que conozco bien.

Estoy seguro que la persona que lo envió, no reflexionó antes de colocar ese video de minutos, en el teléfono de mucha gente.

Yo no lo miré hasta el final. Era demasiado largo, de mal gusto y diría que hasta vulgar.

Entonces, tomé mi teléfono para discutir con la persona que me había enviado ese mensaje. Ella me dijo que, de todos modos, el video muestra una realidad que existe en nuestro mundo y que la persona que se lo envió, le solicitó hacerlo circular.

Creo que debemos tener mucho cuidado con los mensajes que recibimos. Hay muchos que sirven sólo para colocarlos en la basura. Pienso que no debemos transmitir todos los mensajes que nos piden, que hagamos circular a nuestra lista de direcciones.

Como cristiano me niego a transmitir todos los malos comentarios sobre nuestra humanidad, todos los mensajes en los cuales no se respeta la dignidad del hombre o de la mujer, y todos los mensajes que no estamos seguros, que tienen un fundamento en la verdad.

Hay muchos mensajes que transmiten racismo, odio, desconfianza y miedo.

Me siento feliz cuando recibo un hermoso mensaje que pone en valor la creación y la humanidad.

Estoy dispuesto a transmitir mensajes de esperanza y que anuncian buenas noticias.

Además, no quiero pasar mi tiempo en el teléfono seleccionando la multitud de mensajes que recibimos actualmente. Creo que hay otras cosas para hacer en la vida, que son más importantes que perder su tiempo leyendo, escuchando o viendo una multitud de textos, que olvidamos inmediatamente después de haberlos leído, escuchado o visto.

Hoy poseemos medios muy potentes para comunicar. Podemos transmitir noticias rápidamente, a miles de personas al mismo tiempo.

En este tiempo de Cuaresma, aprovechemos para utilizar los medios de comunicación que tenemos a nuestra disposición para transmitir buenas noticias.

Seamos cortos en nuestros mensajes y utilicemos bellas fotos de la naturaleza, de nuestra humanidad y de nuestro planeta.

Con un mensaje bonito podemos devolver la alegría y el deseo de vivir a muchas personas que están sufriendo, que viven en la soledad o que están sumergidas por las dificultades.

Seamos mensajeros de buenas noticias. Seamos profetas de felicidad. Seamos discípulos de Cristo y trabajemos con Él para que la Buena Nueva del Evangelio, se transmita a todos y en todas partes.
