NEW AUXILIARY BISHOP ALEX ACLAN WILL BE WITH US

A large delegation from our parish was able to participate in this magnificent celebration and we had the pleasure of greeting the new auxiliary bishop.

Bishop Alex Aclan was born in February 9^th 1951 at Pasay, Philippines. He studied medical technology between 1967 and 1971 at St. Thomas University in Manila. He came to the United States in 1982 with his family. He completed studies to become a priest at St. John’s seminary in Camarillo from 1988 to 1993, and was ordained a priest by Cardinal Mahony on June 5^th 1993.

He carried out his priestly mission in different parishes in the archdiocese, and from 2012 to 2015 he was assistant Vicar for Clergy and became the Vicar for Clergy of the archdiocese from 2015 to 2018. That is when I met him. He has always been very attentive to me regarding my family difficulties, and he did everything he could to help me resolve those issues so that I could continue my mission at St. Sebastian parish.

On March 5^th 2019, Pope Francis named Mgr. Alex Aclan auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles. He is the second American bishop of Filipino origin. The first is Bishop Oscar Solis, whom we had the pleasure of meeting several times at the parish and who installed me in my mission when I arrived at the Los Angeles archdiocese in September 2005. Bishop Solis is the bishop of the diocese of Salt Lake since 2017.

The Los Angeles archdiocese is the region of the USA where there is the greatest number of Filipinos.

Bishop Alex speak Tagalog, English, and Spanish. He will feel right at home in this archdiocese.

The bishop ordination grants the full priesthood to those who receive it to be the presence of Jesus among the people who serves, instructs, celebrates the liturgy, and guides others.

Let us pray for Alex, who has just received the mission of coming to us to help us live closer to God.

Let us pray that he will always be in the service of others and that this ministry, this mission, which he receives today from the Church, will be his path to holiness and happiness.

A week after his ordination, the new bishop will be here at Saint Sebastian, on May 25^th at 5:00pm, to give the sacrament of Confirmation to the young people at our parish who have been preparing for two years to receive the Holy Spirit.

You are all invited to the celebration on Saturday May 25^th and you will have the chance to greet the new auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles, Bishop Alex Aclan.

EL NUEVO OBISPO AUXILIAR ESTARA CON NOSOTROS

Una gran delegación de nuestra parroquia, participó en esa hermosa celebración y tuvimos el gusto de saludar al nuevo obispo auxiliar.

Mons. Alex Aclan nació el 9 de febrero en Pasay, Filipinas. Hizo sus estudios de tecnología médica entre 1967 y 1971 en la Universidad Santo Tomás   en Manila. Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1982 con su familia. Hizo sus estudios para ser sacerdote, en el seminario San Juan en Camarillo, de 1988 a 1993 y fue ordenado sacerdote por el Cardenal Mahony el 5 de junio de 1993.

Ha ejercido su misión de sacerdote en diferentes parroquias de la arquidiócesis. Desde el 2012 hasta el 2015, fue asistente del Vicario del clero. Después, pasó a ser el Vicario del Clero de la arquidiócesis,  durante 2015-2018. En  ese periodo lo conocí. Siempre escuchó mis dificultades familiares e hizo todo lo posible, para ayudarme a resolver mis problemas, para continuar mi misión en la parroquia San Sebastián.

El 5 de marzo 2019, el Papa Francisco nombró Mons. Alex Aclan obispo auxiliar de Los Ángeles. Es el segundo obispo de los Estados Unidos de origen Filipino. El primero fue Mons. Orcas Solís, que tuvimos la ocasión de recibir en varias ocasiones en la parroquia y quien me instaló en mi misión, cuando llegué a la arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, en Septiembre 2005. Mons. Solís es desde marzo 2017, el obispo de la diócesis de Salt Lake, en los Estados Unidos.

La arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles es la región de Estados Unidos, en donde vive el mayor número de filipinos.

Mons. Alex habla tagalo, inglés y español. Estará como “pez en el agua”, en ésta arquidiócesis.

La ordenación episcopal concede la plenitud del sacerdocio a quien la recibe. Para que sea en medio de su pueblo, la presencia de Jesús que sirve, que instruye, que celebra la liturgia y que guía.

Oremos por Alex que acaba de recibir la misión de estar en medio de nosotros, para ayudarnos a vivir más cerca de Dios.

Oremos para que siempre esté al servicio de los demás. Para que ese ministerio que recibe de la Iglesia hoy,  sea para él un camino para su santificación y felicidad.

Una semana después de su ordenación, el nuevo obispo estará aquí en San Sebastián, el sábado 25 de mayo a las 5 pm. Para conceder el sacramento de la Confirmación, a los jóvenes que se han preparado durante dos años, para recibir al Espíritu Santo.

Todos están invitados a la celebración del sábado 25 de mayo y tendrán la oportunidad, de saludar al nuevo obispo auxiliar de los Ángeles Mons. Alex Aclan.
