1^st Communions

We will celebrate the first communions of this year in our parish during the weekend of June 4/5.

On Saturday June 4th at noon, in a bilingual mass (Spanish/English) we will have the first communion of the children of the school.

On the same day at 6:30pm we will have First Communions in French in Newport Beach.

On Sunday June 5th at 10am we will have the first communions in French in Saint Sebastian.

The same day at noon we will have first communions in Spanish.

During that weekend, we celebrate in the Universal Church, the feast of Pentecost.

Our parish, the entire community of Saint Sebastian, is happy to accompany the children in this great celebration.

In the memories of many adults, the day of the first communion remains engraved.

It is important that the children feel accompanied by a large number of Christians who come to pray for them and their families during that day.

Our church, as usual, will be very flowery and all in red to symbolize the joy and the fire of love that the Holy Spirit pours out on earth on the feast of Pentecost.

The children have been preparing for a long time to receive Jesus for the first time in their body. They are happy and eagerly await that day to be able to participate, like adults, in the procession every Sunday that leads them to the altar to receive the Body of Christ.

They know that from now on, they can receive Jesus in their hearts, every time they participate in the Eucharist.

On behalf of the community, on behalf of the Saint Sebastian family, I joyfully welcome all the children who are going to come, for the first time, to the Table that Jesus prepares for us every Sunday.

I extend a special invitation to the parents of the children who are preparing to receive the Body of Christ for the first time. You decided, one day, to have your children baptized. You made the decision to make them enter the Christian community, the family of Jesus. You have offered them the gift of helping them to know Jesus. Today you allow them to be closer to Jesus.

The best inheritance that you can leave your children is Faith. It needs to be fed. It cannot develop if it is not nourished by the Eucharist. Accompany your children to Mass every Sunday so that the desire to live with God grows in them, to receive him every Sunday and to share with him the rest of the week.

I know that sometimes it is not easy to invite the children to mass or to get up to accompany them. In the same way, that it is not easy for us to send them to school every day or make them eat when they do not feel like it or when they prefer to eat food that is not good for their health. God has entrusted your children to you so that you can help them become what they are: beloved children of God. Take your mission seriously and help your children to grow up with principles, with convictions, and above all with the happiness of feeling loved, enlightened, and fortified by God.

On this Pentecost feast, I wish that all the members of our community open their hearts to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit that allow us to change our lives, to have a new life that radiates the love of God through our words and actions.

1as Comuniones

Celebraremos las Primeras Comuniones de este año en nuestra parroquia, durante el fin de semana del 4/5 de junio.

El sábado 4 de junio al medio día, en una Misa bilingüe (español/inglés), tendremos la Primera Comunión de los niños de la escuela.

El mismo día a las 6:30pm, tendremos las Primeras Comuniones en francés en Newport Beach.

El domingo 5 de junio a las 10am, tendremos las Primeras Comuniones en francés en San Sebastián.

El mismo día al medio día, tendremos las Primeras Comuniones en español.

Durante ese fin de semana, celebraremos en la Iglesia Universal, la fiesta de Pentecostés.

Nuestra parroquia, toda la comunidad de San Sebastian se alegra de acompañar a los niños en esta gran celebración.

En los recuerdos de muchos adultos, el día de la Primera Comunión se queda grabado para siempre.

Es importante que los niños se sientan acompañados, por un gran número de cristianos que vienen a orar por ellos y por sus familias durante ese día.

Nuestra iglesia, como de costumbre, estará muy florecida y todo en rojo, para simbolizar la alegría y el fuego del amor que el Espíritu Santo derrama sobre la tierra en la fiesta de Pentecostés. 

Los niños se han preparado por mucho tiempo, para recibir por primera vez a Jesús en su cuerpo. Están felices y esperan con impaciencia ese día, para poder participar como los adultos, en la procesión de todos los domingos que los conduce al altar, para recibir el Cuerpo de Cristo.

Ellos saben que, de ahora en adelante, pueden recibir a Jesús en su corazón, cada vez que participan en la Eucaristía.

En nombre de la comunidad, en nombre de la familia de San Sebastián, recibo con alegría a todos los niños que van a acercarse, por la primera vez, a la Mesa que Jesús prepara para nosotros todos los domingos.

Hago una invitación especial a los padres de familia, de los niños que se preparan para recibir por la primera vez el Cuerpo de Cristo. Ustedes decidieron, un día, llevar a bautizar a sus hijos. Tomaron la decisión de hacerlos entrar en la comunidad cristiana, en la familia de Jesús. Les han ofrecido el regalo de ayudarles a conocer a Jesús. Hoy les permiten estar más cerca de Jesús.

La mejor herencia que ustedes puedan dejar a sus hijos es la Fe. Ella necesita alimentarse. No puede desarrollarse si no se alimenta con la Eucaristía. Acompañen a sus hijos a Misa todos los domingos, para que crezca en ellos el deseo de vivir con Dios, de recibirlo todos los domingos y de compartir con Él el resto de la semana.

Yo sé que a veces no es fácil, invitar a los niños a la misa o levantarse para acompañarlos. De la misma manera que no es fácil, enviarlos a la escuela todos los días, o que coman cuando no tienen ganas o evitarles que coman alimentos que perjudican su salud. Dios les ha confiado a sus hijos, para que ustedes les ayuden a transformarse en lo que son: Hijos amados de Dios. Tomen su misión en serio y ayuden a sus hijos a crecer con principios, con convicciones y sobre todo con la felicidad de sentirse amados, iluminados y fortificados por Dios.

En esta fiesta de Pentecostés, deseo que todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad abran su corazón para que reciban los dones del Espíritu Santo que nos permite cambiar de vida, tener una vida nueva que irradie el amor de Dios a través de nuestras palabras y actos. Feliz semana.
