PRESBYTERIUM

Since I arrived in Los Angeles, I have been impressed and happy to participate each year in the meeting that the archbishop organizes with all the priests and deacons who carry out an activity in the archdiocese.

It is impressive to participate in a meeting of 600 to 700 priests and deacons.

Deacons and priests are the first collaborators of the bishop. Together they constitute the Presbyterium. The men and women religious, the Presbyterium, and all the baptized together represent a local Church.

In general, the local Churches meet in their cathedral at least once a year to celebrate the Chrism Mass or to celebrate important events for the diocese or for the Universal Church.

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Presbyterium meets once a year, generally on the last Monday in September. This year we will meet on September 26 from 12:30pm to 7pm.

On the program are the words of the archbishop, two conferences (in general very interesting. This year we spoke about the racism in the Church), moments of prayer, and a dinner on the esplanade of the cathedral.

Every year, the number of priests decreases in Western countries. Every year the number of priestly vocations also decreases in those countries.

It is important that we pray for priests and that in our families we talk about the priests we know. If we have criticism against the priest of our parish, it is better to address him personally instead of speaking ill of him in front of the children or the people of the neighborhood. That does not help to have more vocations.

Priests are not perfect. We are sinners like all men and women on earth.

We seek, with God's help, to be useful to society and to the Church. Having a priest friend in the family is lucky, for the family and for the priest.

EL PRESBETERIO

Desde que llegué a Los Angeles, me ha impresionado y alegrado participar cada año, en el encuentro que el arzobispo organiza con todos los sacerdotes y los diáconos, que desempeñan una actividad en la arquidiócesis. 

Es impresionante participar en un encuentro de 600 a 700 sacerdotes y diáconos.

Los diáconos y los sacerdotes son los primeros colaboradores del Obispo. Juntos constituyen el Presbiterio. Los religiosos, religiosas, el Presbiterio y todos los bautizados, juntos representan una Iglesia local.

En general, las Iglesias locales se reúnen en su catedral al menos una vez por año, para celebrar la Misa Crismal o para celebrar eventos importantes para la diócesis o para la Iglesia Universal.

En la Arquidiócesis de los Ángeles, el Presbiterio se reúne una vez por año, en general, el último lunes de septiembre. Este año, nos reuniremos el 26 de septiembre de las 12:30pm a las 7pm.

En el programa están las palabras del arzobispo, dos conferencias (en general muy interesantes. Este año hablamos del racismo en la Iglesia), momentos de oración y una cena en la esplanada de la catedral.

Cada año, el número de sacerdotes disminuye en los países occidentales. Cada año el número de vocaciones sacerdotales disminuye también en esos países.

Es importante que oremos por los sacerdotes. Que, en nuestras familias hablemos de los sacerdotes que conocemos. Si tenemos críticas en contra del sacerdote de nuestra parroquia, es mejor dirigirse a él personalmente, en lugar de hablar mal de él delante de niños o gente del barrio. Eso no ayuda a tener más vocaciones.

Los sacerdotes no son perfectos. Somos pecadores como todos los hombres y mujeres de la tierra.

Buscamos, con la ayuda de Dios, a ser útiles para la sociedad y la Iglesia. Tener un sacerdote amigo en la familia es una suerte, tanto para la familia como para el sacerdote.

Gracias a todas las personas que comparten su vida conmigo.

Gracias a todas las personas que oran por mí.

Gracias a todas las personas que me ayudan a corregir mis defectos y crecer en mi amor por la humanidad.

Oren por sus sacerdotes.
