Fr. German’s Message

From Sunday March 27^th to Sunday April 4^th, all Christians will celebrate the Holy Week.

The festivities begin on Palm Sunday with the reading of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the goal of the holy week is to take us to the next Sunday, the day of the Resurrection, for celebrating together Easter with Christ.

It is important for all Christians to participate in the celebrations that the Church brings us this week. Palm Sunday, the Chrismal Mass, Good Thursday, Holy Friday and Easter Vigil are important events in our Christian itinerary. The times for these celebrations are available on the parish’s web site as well as in the parish bulletin. These celebrations will help us better understand the essential points of our faith, God’s immense love for humanity, the mission of all baptized inside society and the Church’s importance which allows us to celebrate the sacraments that nourish our faith.

Ever since I am a pastor, a German artist, whom I met during my studies in Rome, offers me as a gift the decoration of the Paschal Candle. Each year, he gets inspired by the Bible to decorate the Paschal Candle of his parish in Germany and he makes the same decoration for us. I want to take a minute to thank Ludger for this beautiful gift that reminds us that our churches are closely joined since they are being illuminated by the same Light, the same Christ.

This year, my friend got inspired from 2 biblical texts, one from the Old Testament and the second from the New Testament.

Ps 35(36)10: “For with you is the fountain of life, and in your light we see light”.

Jn14,1: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You gave faith in God; gave faith also in me”.

The Paschal Candle which will be illuminated during the Paschal time and it will also be glowing during the baptisms, confirmations, and funerals that we will be celebrating this year, it invites us to contemplate the world where we live to discover in it the Cross and the Light that comes from Christ.

The colors around the decoration represent the diversity of the situations that occur in our lives and in our world: water, fire, nature, blood, war, love, tenderness, hatred, jealousy, evil…Among all of these contradictions, a picture of the Cross appears. In our world, Christ’s Cross is present and it is visible in our brothers and sisters’ suffering from catastrophes and evil.

If we are careful, we can discover (in the decoration of the Paschal Candle and in our lives) that everything is being illuminated by a light that comes from outside. This is the Resurrected Light that invites us to grow in Jesus, who is the source of Life and he brings Light to our existence.

Let us take the time to contemplate the Paschal Candle that is here to help us grow our faith and trust in Christ’s presence among us. Let us sing with the Psalm: “from your Light we will see the Light”.

Mensaje del  P. Germán

Del domingo 27 de marzo al domingo 4 de abril, todos los cristianos van a celebrar la Semana Santa.

Las festividades comienzan el Domingo de Ramos con la lectura de la Pasión de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo y la meta de la semana es de conducirnos hasta el domingo siguiente, día de la Resurrección, para celebrar juntos la Pascua con Cristo.

Es importante para todos los bautizados participar a las celebraciones que la Iglesia propone para esta semana. El domingo de Ramos, la Misa Crismal, el Jueves Santo, el Viernes Santo y la Vigilia Pascual son momentos importantes en nuestro itinerario de cristianos. Los horarios de las celebraciones están en el sitio internet y en el boletín parroquial. Estas celebraciones nos ayudan a comprender mejor los puntos esenciales de nuestra fe, el inmenso amor de Dios por la humanidad, la misión de todos los bautizados al interior de la sociedad y la importancia de la Iglesia que nos permite celebrar los sacramentos que alimentan nuestra fe.

Desde que yo soy pastor, un artista alemán, que conocí durante mis estudios en Roma, me regala la decoración del Cirio Pascual. Cada año él se inspira de la Biblia para decorar el Cirio Pascual de su parroquia en Alemania y hace la misma decoración para nosotros. Aprovecho para agradecer a Ludger por este hermoso regalo que nos recuerda que nuestras Iglesias están unidas profundamente ya que iluminadas por la misma Luz, por el mismo Cristo.

Este año, mi amigo se inspiró de 2 textos bíblicos; uno del primero y otro del segundo testamento.

Ps 35(36)10: “Porque contigo está el manantial de la vida; en tu luz veremos la luz”.

Jn 14,1: “No se turben, crean en Dios y crean también en mí”.

El Cirio Pascual, que será iluminado durante todo el tiempo Pascual y que brillará también durante los bautizos, las confirmaciones y los funerales que celebraremos este año, nos invita a contemplar el mundo en el cual vivimos para descubrir en él la Cruz y la Luz que viene de Cristo.

Los colores alrededor de la decoración representan la diversidad de situaciones en nuestra vida y en nuestro mundo: el agua, el fuego, la naturaleza, la sangre, la guerra, el amor, la ternura, el odio, la envidia, el mal….. En medio de todas estas contradicciones aparece el dibujo de la Cruz. En nuestro mundo, la Cruz de Cristo está presente y visible en el sufrimiento de todos nuestros hermanos víctimas de las catástrofes y del mal.

Si ponemos cuidado, podemos descubrir (en la decoración del Cirio Pascual y en nuestra vida) que todo está iluminado por una luz que viene del exterior. Es la Luz del Resucitado que nos invita a creer en Jesús que es la fuente de la Vida y de la Luz de nuestra existencia.

Tomemos tiempo para contemplar el Cirio Pascual que está aquí para ayudarnos a crecer en la fe y en la confianza en la presencia de Cristo en medio de nosotros. Cantemos con el Salmista: “en tu Luz veremos la Luz”.
