A long time ago I understood that the church’s lights needed to be replaced. It was no longer possible to continue repairing them. They did not last long, and I saw the day coming that the whole electrical system would shut down.

After consulting several electrical specialists, the parish Finance Council and the archdiocese authorities, and visiting some churches that have changed their lighting system in recent years, I decided to change the entire lighting system of our church.

For two years we have been consulting and having discussions with different electrical specialists in church lighting.

We chose a company called RES. They offered us a lighting system that fits into what I want for our pastoral needs. I’ve been at Saint Sebastian for 12 years and I know exactly what lighting system we need to have a well-lighted church during the day and for the lighting to adapt to the different pastoral activities we offer. The new system will allow us to reduce costs. We will be able to program the system to turn on during the day and turn off at night. We will have several settings to adapt the church lighting for every pastoral activity. There will be powerful lighting on Sundays for all masses, a little less light for weekday masses. A specific lighting for the prayer group, another setting to light the church during Taizé prayer. During Lent the Road of the Cross will be lit up in violet. To celebrate the martyrs of the Church and Pentecost, the church statues will be lit in red. We will have new emergency lights. None of them were working. The whole system will be LED. It provides more powerful energy for much less. The church’s electricity bill will go down considerably after the work is complete. We will be able to control the light remotely with a tablet. The system is very modern, comfortable, and it should last a long time.

I am sure that when all the work is complete, we will be very proud of our church’s lighting.

But all this has a price. It’s been a long time since we’ve been busy putting money aside to pay for this work. The contract has been signed with a cost of $68,612.00. There will of course be surprises while the work is being done, and we will have to add a little more money.

We already have $55,550.00. We still need some more money. I am sure that the beginning of the work will really motivate parishioners to help us complete what we need.

For two days, electricians will remove the pews of the church to install lights in the center. We will spend the evening, while the pews are removed, doing a deep cleaning of the church’s floor. We have a clean church to contemplate along with new lights.

NUEVAS LUCES PARA LA IGLESIA

Desde hace mucho tiempo comprendí que la luz de la iglesia necesitaba ser reemplazada. Que ya no era posible  continuar reparando. Las reparaciones no duraban mucho y veía llegar el día, en que todo el sistema eléctrico se apagaría.

Después de consultar a varios especialistas en electricidad, a los consejeros financieros de la parroquia, a las autoridades de la arquidiócesis y después  de visitar algunas iglesias que han cambiado su sistema de iluminación en los últimos años, he decidido cambiar todo el sistema de iluminación de nuestra iglesia.

Durante dos años hemos estado consultando y discutiendo con diferentes electricistas especialistas en la iluminación de iglesias.

Elegimos una compañía llamada RES. Nos ofrecieron un sistema de iluminación, que corresponde a lo  requerido para nuestras necesidades pastorales. Estoy en San Sebastián desde hace 12 años y conozco bien el sistema de iluminación que necesitamos, para tener una iglesia bien iluminada durante el día y para que la iluminación se puede adaptar a las diferentes actividades pastorales que ofrecemos. El nuevo sistema también nos permitirá ahorrar dinero. El sistema se puede programar, para que se encienda en la mañana y se apague en la noche. Tendremos varios programas de iluminación, para adaptar la iluminación de la iglesia a cada actividad pastoral. Habrá una iluminación más intensa el domingo para las misas y un poco menos de luz en las misas de la semana. Un poco de iluminación para el grupo de oración, otro programa para iluminar la iglesia durante la oración de Taizé. Durante la Cuaresma, el Viacrucis se iluminará de violeta. Para celebrar los mártires de la Iglesia y la fiesta de Pentecostés, las estatuas de la iglesia se iluminarán en rojo. Tendremos nuevas luces de emergencia. Ninguna de ellas funcionaba. Todo el sistema será LED. Proporciona energía más potente y mucho menos costosa. La factura de la electricidad de la iglesia debe disminuir considerablemente después de los trabajos. Con una tableta podemos controlar la luz a distancia. El sistema es muy moderno, cómodo y debe mantenerse durante mucho tiempo.

Estoy seguro que cuando todo el trabajo haya terminado, estaremos muy orgullosos de la iluminación de nuestra iglesia.

Pero todo esto tiene un costo. Hemos estado ahorrando dinero durante un largo tiempo para pagar este trabajo. El contrato se firmó con un costo de $ 68,612.00. Seguramente habrá sorpresas durante los trabajos y tendremos que considerar un poco más de dinero.

Ya tenemos $ 55,550.00. Todavía nos falta algo de dinero. Estoy seguro que el inicio de los trabajos, motivará a muchos feligreses a ayudarnos a completar lo que nos falta.

Durante dos días, los electricistas quitarán las bancas de la iglesia para instalar luces en el centro. Vamos a disfrutar de la noche, mientras que las bancas serán retiradas, para hacer una limpieza general del piso de la iglesia.

Tendremos una iglesia limpia para contemplar con una nueva luz.
