And you, who do you, say that I am? The question that Jesus asks his disciples, is a question that each baptized should ask himself once in a while to increase our awareness of the image we have of The One that we follow since we were baptized.

This question or better yet, the answer to this question will help us meditate on our way to proceed in the world as Christians, like disciples of The One who asks: Who am I for you?

With this Sunday’s liturgy’s help, we can say that Jesus is The One that sent us the Spirit of God to purify us.  Jesus is every man’s brother. He reminds us that with our faith from baptism we are united to Him to announce to the world that before God there is neither Jew nor heathen, slave or free man, man or woman, but all are united with Jesus Christ.

To proclaim that Jesus is the Messiah and to believe that Jesus is our Savior commits us to live like brothers of all men.

Racism and discrimination are not compatible with those who believe in the One who died in the cross to save humanity.

Racism and discrimination are incompatible with our faith since we proclaim that Christ is the brother of all the men, that we all have the same father, and that the Spirit of God lives in the hearts of all.

Today we should answer the question: And you, who do you, say that I am? Our answer would be truthful if it is accompanied with actions that give testimony in front of everyone of the image that we have of Christ and of His presence, in our words and in our actions.

Today we should answer the Lord’s question not with words but with a virtuous life.

Are we capable of recognizing the Lord, the Messiah, the Savior, and a risen Christ in the face of all our brothers? Are we capable of accepting that the Lord reveals Himself in the cross and also in the face of misery, in the face of the exploitation, of humiliated immigrants, and in the suffering of many of our brothers and sisters?

Let’s take time to answer the question that the Lord asked His disciples so our lives enlighten our answer and so that others discover in our existence the presence of That One that lives with us, Christ, the brother of all men, the Savior of Humanity.

12º Domingo del tiempo de la Iglesia

2ª lectura: 1ª carta de San Pablo a los Gálatas 3,26-29

Evangelio: de San Lucas 9,18-24

 

Y ustedes, quien dicen que soy Yo? La pregunta que Jesús le hace a sus discípulos es una pregunta que cada bautizado debe hacerse de vez en cuando para tomar conciencia de la imagen que tenemos de Aquel que seguimos desde que fuimos bautizados.

Esta pregunta, o más bien, la respuesta a la pregunta nos ayuda a reflexionar sobre nuestra manera de actuar en el mundo como cristianos, como discípulos de Aquel que nos pregunta: Quien soy Yo para ti?

Con la ayuda de la liturgia de este domingo, podemos decir que Jesús es Aquel que nos envió el Espíritu de Dios para purificarnos. Jesús es el hermano de todos los hombres que nos recuerda que por la fe y por el bautismo estamos unidos a El para anunciarle al mundo que delante de Dios no hay ni Judío ni pagano, ni esclavo ni hombre libre, ni hombre y mujer, ya que todos, estamos unidos a Cristo Jesús.

Proclamar que Jesús es el Mesías y creer que Cristo es nuestro Salvador nos compromete a vivir como hermanos de todos los hombres.

El racismo y la discriminación no son compatibles con los que creen en Aquel que murió en la cruz para salvar toda la humanidad.

El racismo y la discriminación se oponen a la fe ya que proclamamos que Cristo es el hermano de todos los hombre, que todos tenemos el mismo Padre y que el Espíritu de Dios habita en el corazón de todos.

Hoy debemos responder a la pregunta: Y ustedes, quien dicen que soy Yo? Nuestra respuesta será verdadera si se acompaña de actos que den testimonio delante de todos de la imagen que tenemos de Cristo y de su presencia en nuestras palabras y en nuestros actos.

Hoy debemos responder a la pregunta del Señor no con palabras sino con nuestra vida.

Somos capaces de reconocer al Señor, al Mesías, al Salvador, a Cristo resucitado en la cara de todos nuestros hermanos? Somos capaces de aceptar que el Señor se revela a nosotros desfigurado en la cruz y también desfigurado en la cara de la miseria, de la explotación, en la cara del emigrante humillado y en el sufrimiento de muchos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas?

Tomemos tiempo en estas vacaciones para contestar a la pregunta que le Señor le hace a sus discípulos para que nuestra vida se ilumine con nuestra respuesta y para que los demás descubran en nuestra existencia la presencia de Aquel que habita en nosotros, Cristo, el hermano de todos los hombres, el Salvador de la Humanidad.
