We can summarize this Sunday’s liturgy in one sentence: “The disciples of Christ should be free men and women to proclaim and to live the new commandment: “love each other as Jesus loved us.”

Freedom and love should guide the life of all disciples of Christ.

Freedom:

Sometimes we listen to people who try to teach the Gospel with threats or who try to bring people to Christ frightened by Him.

I believe this is a mistake to offer the Gospel or Faith if we don’t respect the freedom of the person who is in front of us. There are also people who believe in God because they are afraid of divine punishment. I believe they are wrong also. Faith, accepting the friendship of Jesus, and being part of the Church should be free decisions. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God whom we receive in baptism and whom we welcome when we receive a Sacrament, is the Spirit who makes us free.

Freedom doesn’t mean that we can do whatever we want. Freedom is the ability to break the chains that enclose us in our egoism. Freedom is the strength that allows us to open our hearts to love without conditions or limits.

Love:

True freedom, freedom that God gives us, is the ability to decide always and wherever to do good and to love. Then we walk in the way of happiness, on the route of peace and on the path of brotherhood.

Those who are afraid of others, those who distrust the future lock themselves into thinking only about their own comfort and well-being; they are locked in themselves. They become slaves of many false ideas that society uses to guide our lives whereby we can become rich but our freedom is destroyed.

Love is the richness that exists in our hearts and what allows us to offer and accept what others and we need to live better.

Love one another like Christ loved us. That is the commandment, the law that all should follow: to love others without calculation and without differences, and to love those who are near and those who are far away.

In this world that becomes more and more globalized, we cannot choose to love only those who love us. In this world where we don’t have any borders because the social media allows us to communicate with all countries in the world, we cannot think only about the happiness of our family, community, or country. Christ’s message is very important today. We should love one another and work for the happiness of all. We depend on others and above all we are all people of the world, even those we consider poor or dangerous. We are all children of God.

Let us live free. Let us try to love like Christ. The words of exclusion or hate cannot exist in the mouths of the disciples of Christ.

1ª lectura: del 1er libro de los Reyes 1Re 19,16.19-21

2ª lectura: carta de San Pablo a los Gálatas 5,1.13-18

Evangelio: de San Lucas 9,51-62

Podemos resumir la liturgia de este domingo en una frase: “Los discípulos de Cristo deben ser hombres y mujeres libres, anunciando y viviendo el mandamiento nuevo de amarnos unos a otros, como Jesús nos amó.”

Libertad y amor deben guiar la vida de todos los discípulos de Cristo.

Libertad:

A veces escuchamos a personas que tratan de anunciar el Evangelio con amenazas, o tratan de acercar a la gente con Cristo, por medio del miedo.

Creo que es un error, proponer el Evangelio o la fe, sin respetar la libertad de los demás. También hay personas que creen en Dios porque temen el castigo divino. Creo que ellos también están en el error. La fe, la amistad con Jesús y el hecho de pertenecer a la Iglesia, deben ser decisiones libres. El Espíritu Santo, el Espíritu de Dios que recibimos en el Bautismo, que acogemos cada vez que participamos en la Eucaristía, o recibimos mediante un sacramento es un Espíritu que hace de nosotros personas libres.

La libertad no consiste en hacer todo lo que queremos. La libertad es la capacidad de romper las cadenas, que nos encierran en el egoísmo. La libertad es la fuerza, que nos permite abrir el corazón, para amar sin condición y sin límite.

Amar.

La verdadera libertad, la libertad que Dios nos ofrece es la capacidad de decidir siempre y en todo lugar. De hacer el bien y de amar, para caminar por la ruta de la felicidad, por el camino de la paz, por la via de la fraternidad.

Aquellos que tienen miedo de los demás, que desconfían del futuro, se encierran en sí mismos, para pensar sólo en su bienestar y comodidad. Se convierten en esclavos de muchas falsas proposiciones que la sociedad nos presenta, dirigiendo nuestra vida por caminos que enriquecen a los demás y que destruyen nuestra libertad.

El amor es la riqueza que existe en nuestro corazón permitiéndonos ofrecer y recibir, lo que los demás y nosotros mismos necesitamos para vivir mejor.

Amarse unos a otros como Cristo nos ha amado. Ese es el mandamiento, la ley que todos debemos seguir. Amar sin calcular, amar sin diferencias. Amar a aquellos que están cerca y aquellos que están lejos.

En este mundo en el cual se vive cada día más la globalización, no podemos cerrar el corazón para amar solamente a quienes nos aman. En este mundo en el cual ya no hay fronteras, puesto que los medios sociales nos permiten vivir en comunicación con todos los países del mundo, no podemos pensar solamente en la felicidad de nuestra familia, de nuestra comunidad, o de nuestro país. El mensaje de Cristo es importante hoy. Debemos amar y trabajar por la felicidad de todos. Todos dependemos unos de otros. Sobre todo, porque todos, la gente de este país y de los países que consideramos pobres o peligrosos, todos somos de Dios.

Vivamos libres. Tratemos de amar como Cristo. Las palabras de exclusión, o de odio no pueden existir en la boca de hijos los discípulos de Cristo. Amén
