This Sunday’s liturgy reminds us that through baptism we have been sent on a mission to build peace around us and to live joyfully.

Sent on a mission. 

Jesus chose 72 disciples and sent them on a mission. The Church continues to choose men and women whom she baptizes and confirms and sends them to fulfill the mission entrusted to her.

The Christians are, first of all, those who accept the invitation of Jesus to follow him and who commit themselves to continue his mission.

We have not been baptized to have a diploma hung on the walls of our bedrooms or to have permission to wear a cross on our necks or to have the best insurance against evil.

We have been baptized, first of all, to follow Christ and to commit ourselves to him in the mission that God the Father entrusted to him and which he entrusted to his disciples, before returning to the Father.

Like the first 72 disciples, we are not very numerous in the midst of society. Like the first 72 people sent, we are also like sheep in the midst of wolves. Like the 72, we should pray that the Lord continues to send men and women, more and more numerous to commit themselves with us in the mission of

Building peace.

During Easter season we read the apparitions of the Risen Christ in the midst of his disciples. In all the apparitions, the risen Christ transmitted peace to those who welcomed him.  Our mission is to welcome the peace of God and to spread it around us. The world needs peace workers today more than ever. We should fight against all speech that divides humanity, separates the rich from the poor, against those who denigrate people who have different political or religious opinions. We should oppose every word or action that produces hate, racism, division, or discrimination.

We must reject all words that lead to disrespect for one another. Christians must always commit themselves to destroying walls that separate and to building bridges that bring people together.

We are workers of peace, and our mission is to build peace always and everywhere.

Our union with Christ should be manifested, without exception, by our constant actions in building peace in our families, in our communities, in our societies and in our world to

Live in joy.

When Christians accept living united with Christ and working with Him in building peace, they live joyfully because they know that their names are written in heaven.

Pessimism, distrust, despair, suspicion, and discourses that speak of catastrophes, failures and all the feelings that oppose joy are always the result of the lack of faith. Our relationship with God must produce joy and confidence. We know that God has sent us to build peace; we also know that we will win in that difficult battle because He is with us until the end of the world.

Dear Christians, we have been baptized to go into the whole world building the peace that comes from God and to live joyfully.

Evangelio: de San Lucas 10,1-12.17-20

La liturgia de este domingo nos recuerda que, por medio del bautismo, hemos sido enviados en misión para construir la paz alrededor de nosotros y vivir alegres.

Enviados en misión.

Desde que Jesús escogió 72 discípulos y los envió en misión, la Iglesia continúa escogiendo hombres y mujeres que bautiza y confirma, para enviarlos a cumplir la misión que Jesús le ha confiado.

El cristiano es, primero que todo, alguien que acepta la invitación de Jesús a seguirlo y se compromete con Él, para continuar su misión.

No hemos sido bautizados para tener un diploma en el muro de nuestra habitación. O para tener el derecho de llevar una cruz en el cuello. O para suscribir un hermoso seguro de protección contra el mal. Hemos sido bautizados, primero que todo, para seguir a Cristo. Para comprometernos con Él, en la misión que Dios Padre le confió y que, a su vez, Él confía después a sus discípulos, antes de regresar al Padre.

Como los 72 primeros discípulos, no somos muy numerosos en medio de la humanidad. Como los 72 primeros enviados, nosotros también estamos como ovejas en medio de lobos. Como los 72, debemos orar para que el Señor siga enviando hombres y mujeres, cada vez más numerosos que se comprometan con nosotros en la misión de

Construir la paz.

Durante el Tiempo Pascual, leímos las apariciones de Jesús Resucitado en medio de sus discípulos. En todas las apariciones, el Resucitado transmite paz a quienes lo reciben. Nuestra misión es recibir la paz de Dios, para transmitir alrededor de nosotros. El mundo necesita, hoy más que nunca, obreros de paz. Debemos luchar contra todos los discursos que dividen la humanidad, que separan a los ricos de los pobres. Que deshonran a los que tienen opiniones políticas o religiosas diferentes. Debemos oponernos a toda palabra y acción que produce odio, racismo, división o discriminación. Debemos rechazar todas las palabras que conducen al desprecio de unos por otros. Los cristianos deben comprometerse siempre, a destruir los muros que separan para construir puentes que reúnen.

Somos obreros de paz y nuestra misión es construir la paz siempre y en todo lugar.

Nuestra unión a Cristo debe manifestarse en nuestra acción permanente y sin excepción, en la construcción de paz en nuestras familias, en nuestras comunidades, en nuestra sociedad y en nuestro mundo para

Vivir alegres.

Cuando los cristianos aceptan vivir unidos a Cristo para trabajar con Él en la construcción de paz, viven alegres porque saben que sus nombres están inscritos en el cielo.

El pesimismo, el desespero, la desconfianza, los discursos que hablan siempre de catástrofes, de fracasos y todos los sentimientos que se oponen a la alegría, son siempre el resultado de la pérdida de la fe. Nuestra relación con Dios debe producir alegría y confianza. Sabemos que Dios nos ha enviado a construir la paz. Sabemos también que saldremos vencedores en ese combate difícil, porque Él está con nosotros hasta el fin del mundo.

Queridos cristianos, hemos sido bautizados para ir al mundo entero, a construir la paz que viene de Dios y para vivir alegres.
