This Sunday, the Church invites us to meditate on hunger and thirst.

One the greatest problems of our human condition is hunger and thirst. Children who come into the world should have what they need to be nourished. It is a fundamental right. Every government should do what is necessary so that all the inhabitants of the country that has been entrusted to it can eat their fill and satisfy their thirst.

 Creation has sufficient resources to feed all humans. Perhaps this week each one of us can make an effort to share a little food and drink with a homeless person, one of the groups that fight against hunger and thirst in the world, or with our parish, which feeds many people every day who are not able to get enough to eat or drink.

In addition to physical hunger and thirst, there is also spiritual hunger and thirst. All around us and in our world there are many people who are spiritually malnourished.

There are still many men and women who do not know that the Church freely gives us the essential bread and wine to feed our faith and to live with God.

The hardest thing to understand is that among all these spiritually malnourished people, there are many who have been baptized and who have never received the Body and Blood of Christ.

Today the Church invites us to participate at the best table there could be: the Table of the Eucharist.

Let us feed our faith and go into the world to announce to all our brothers and sisters that in the Church there is a free meal with  food that comes from heaven. All are invited. The first seats are reserved for those who suffer because of disease, injustice, poverty, ignorance, and unemployment. Those who need love and who need to receive God’s forgiveness are especially invited. The seats of honor are prepared for those who suffer.  Christ himself sets this Table for us each time the Church celebrates the Eucharist.

Today, upon receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, let us give thanks to the Lord for having invited us to this meal.

When we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, let us think about those that we do not know and who need to receive a special invitation to come to the table of the Lord. Let us not be afraid or ashamed to invite our friends and families to this Table where God gives us what we need in order to live as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Evangelio: San Mateo 14,13-21

 

Este domingo la Iglesia nos invita a reflexionar sobre el hambre y la sed.

Uno de los sufrimientos más grandes de nuestra humanidad, es el hambre y la sed.

Todo niño que viene a este mundo, debería tener lo necesario para alimentarse. Este es un derecho fundamental. Todos los gobernantes deberían hacer lo necesario, para que los habitantes del país, que les ha sido confiado, tengan los medios para saciar su hambre y calmar su sed.

La creación cuenta con suficientes recursos para alimentarnos a todos. En esta semana, posiblemente cada uno de nosotros podría hacer el esfuerzo, de compartir un poco de alimento y bebida, con alguna persona  necesitada, con una de las asociaciones que luchan contra el hambre y la sed en el mundo, o con nuestra parroquia que alimenta, todos los días, a varias personas que no tienen lo necesario para comer y beber.

Además del hambre y la sed física, existe también el hambre y la sed espiritual. Alrededor de nosotros, en nuestro mundo, hay muchas personas mal-alimentadas o sufriendo de desnutrición espiritual.

Muchos hombres y mujeres, aún no saben, o no se han dado cuenta, de que la Iglesia distribuye, gratuitamente el pan y el vino, indispensables para alimentar la fe y vivir con Dios.

Lo más triste de todo esto, es que en medio de esas personas sufriendo de desnutrición espiritual, hay muchos bautizados que nunca han recibido el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo.

Hoy la Iglesia nos invita a todos, a participar en la mejor mesa que pudiese existir: la Mesa Eucarística

Alimentemos nuestra fe, vayamos al mundo para anunciar a todos nuestros hermanos y hermanas, que la Iglesia nos ofrece una cena gratuita con alimentos que vienen del cielo. Todos están invitados. Los primeros lugares han sido reservados para aquellos que sufren a causa de alguna enfermedad, de la injusticia, de la pobreza, de la incomprensión, de la falta de trabajo. Para todos aquellos que buscan amor y los que necesitan el perdón de Dios, todos ellos están especialmente invitados. Los lugares de honor han sido preparados para todos los que sufren. Cristo mismo prepara la Mesa para nosotros, cada vez que la Iglesia celebra la Eucaristía.

Hoy, en el momento de recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, agradezcamos al Señor por habernos invitado a esta Cena.

Al recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, oremos por aquellas personas que conocemos y que necesitan recibir una invitación especial, para participar a la Mesa del Señor. No tengamos miedo o vergüenza de invitar a nuestros amigos y familiares a esta Mesa, en la que Dios nos da lo necesario para vivir como hermanos y hermanas de Cristo.
