Sunday’s liturgy reminds us of two elements that are central to the lives of all Christians:

-        We are nomads

-        We live in hope

 

-        We are nomads

 

Like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and others who came before us, we are a people who journey, a people of nomads. We know, and the liturgy frequently reminds us, that life on earth is not our final destination. We are preparing to live another life where there is no death, suffering or sin.

When we go on vacation, we know how important it is to not weigh ourselves down with useless things. If we carry heavy suitcases we can hurt ourselves. On vacation, we know that the more things we have to carry, the more difficult it is to travel and pack and unpack. Heavy suitcases prevent us from fully enjoying our trip.

It’s like this, too, during our journey on earth. The more things we accumulate, the more work it takes to get out from under our things and benefit from the company of others. The more we are occupied with details, the less we can pay attention to the important things in life.

Like the nomads that we are, we should journey in a way that leads us to meet God and our brothers and sisters. Like the nomads that we are, we need to relieve ourselves of too many things in order to avoid being bogged down in this world, which is merely a step along the journey of our lives.

We should try to be more aware of the things we have that might derail us or slow us down on our journey.

We are nomads, and joy comes in the simplicity of our lives on this earth.

 

-        We live in hope

We await the coming of Our Lord and we know that one day or another we will meet Him face to face. We do not know the day nor the hour when we will leave this earth and find ourselves with the One who promised to return and take us home to Him.

In this hope let us prepare ourselves as best we can to live each day as if it were our last. Let us make the most of each moment and live each day to the utmost by giving and receiving all the love in our hearts and all the love that others wish to share with us.

Let’s not waste time. The end of our days could be today or tomorrow. Let us live in peace with God, our brothers and sisters, and all others so that on the final day of our journey, we do not regret anything. Let us be ready, then, to joyfully be with God.

Let us walk with joy toward the Lord and await in peace our meeting God so that all of our days are filled with faith, peace, and love.

1ª lectura: del libro de la Sabiduría 18,6-9

Evangelio: de San Lucas 12,32-48

La liturgia de este domingo nos recuerda dos condiciones importantes en la vida de todos los cristianos:

-        Somos nómadas

-        Vivimos en la espera

 

-        Somos nómadas

Como Abraham, Isaac, Jacob y los otros, nosotros somos un pueblo de nómadas. Todos sabemos, y la liturgia nos lo recuerda frecuentemente, que la vida en la tierra no es nuestro destino final y que nos preparamos para vivir otra vida en la cual no habrá muerte, ni sufrimiento ni pecado.

Cuando salimos de vacaciones, nos damos cuenta de la importancia de no cargarnos con cosas inútiles. Llevar maletas muy pesadas puede dañarnos las vacaciones. En vacaciones realizamos que entre más cosas tenemos que transportar, más dificultad tenemos para movernos y para instalarnos en cualquier parte. Las maletas pesadas no impiden de aprovechar del viaje.

Así mismo sucede en nuestro viaje por la tierra. Entre más acumulamos bienes, más trabajo nos cuesta salid de nosotros mismos para aprovechar del encuentro con los demás. Entre más nos llenamos de detalles menos atención le damos a las cosas esenciales de la vida.

Como nómadas que somos, debemos caminar siempre para avanzar en el camino que nos conduce al encuentro con Dios y con nuestros hermanos. Como nómadas que somos, debemos despegarnos de muchas cosas para no instalarnos en esta tierra que es solamente una etapa de nuestra vida.

Tratemos de mirar lo que poseemos para ver si hay cosas que nos impiden o que nos retardan en la marcha.

Somos nómadas y la felicidad se construye gracias a la simplicidad de la vida en la tierra.

 

-        Vivimos en la espera.

Esperamos la venida del Señor y sabemos que un día u otro nos encontraremos cara a cara con él. No sabemos ni el día ni la hora de nuestra salida de la tierra y de nuestro encuentro con Aquel que nos prometió regresar para llevarnos con él.

En esta espera debemos prepararnos y la mejor manera de hacerlo es viviendo cada día como si fuera el último. Aprovechemos de cada instante y vivamos todos los fías a fondo para dar y recibir todo el amor que tenemos en el corazón y todo el amor que los otros desean compartir con nosotros.

No perdamos tiempo. Esperamos el último día y puede ser hoy o mañana. Vivamos en paz con Dios, con nosotros mismos y con los demás para que el día de nuestro viaje final no nos arrepintamos de nada y para que estemos listos a vivir alegremente el encuentro con Dios.

Caminemos con alegría hacia el Señor y esperemos en paz el encuentro con Dios para que nuestra vida de todos los días esté llena de confianza, de paz y de amor.
