1st Reading: from the Book of Proverbs 9,1-6

This weekend is the forth and the last Sunday that we read the discourse of Jesus on the Bread: the Eucharist.

On past Sundays we said that we need the Body and Blood of Christ to nourish our faith and live the call of God; we also reflected on the fact that we believe that the Bread and Wine we share in the Eucharist are the Body and Blood of the Christ. Last week we said that on each Eucharist God tells us: “Get up, eat and continue your journey.”

Today we can retain the words of Christ in the Gospel of Saint John that suggests concluding the reflection of Jesus’ discourse on the Bread of Life: “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.”

This reflection is trying to show us the importance of living in Jesus and accept Jesus to live in us.

One of the Fathers of the Church (Saint Agustin) said: “Become what you have received: the Body of Christ.”

When we exit the Eucharist we can say that Jesus is in us and that He invites us to be in Him during all the week. When we exit the mass, we are not exiting alone, the Lord lives in us and he invites us to live in Him.

Yesterday (August 15) we celebrated the Assumption of Mary and the Church presents Mary as the perfect woman who knew how to receive the Son of God in her body and who followed without any doubt the steps of her Son to show us the path that leads us to Christ, that conducts us to the life that allows us to meet God.

Let us look at Mary to learn to live in Christ and to understand the mystery of the Eucharist that is the sacrament in which we become the Tabernacle of God because Christ makes of our body and of our life his room.

Help us Lord to respect our body and respect the body of our brothers since you chose us to live in us, to stay with us and show us how live in you and be with you when we exit the church.

20^ème Dim de l’Église

2ème lecture: lettre de St Paul aux Éphésiens 5,15-20

Evangile: Saint Jean 6,51-58

Ce week-end est le 4^ème et dernier dimanche consécutif dans lequel nous lisons le discours de Jésus sur le Pain de Vie, sur l’Eucharistie.

 Les dimanches précédents, nous avons dit que nous avons besoin du Corps et du Sang du Christ pour nourrir la foi et pour vivre l’appel de Dieu ;  nous avons réfléchi aussi au fait que nous croyons que le Pain et le Vin que nous partageons dans l’Eucharistie sont le Corps et le Sang du Christ. La semaine dernière, nous avons dit que dans chaque Eucharistie Dieu nous dit

« Lève-toi, mange et marche ».

Aujourd’hui, nous pouvons retenir les paroles du Christ dans l’Évangile de Saint Jean que l’Eglise nous propose pour conclure la méditation sur le discours de Jésus sur le Pain de Vie : « Celui qui mange ma chair et boit mon sang demeure en moi, et moi je demeure en lui ».

Il s’agit de demeurer en Jésus et d’accepter que Jésus demeure en nous.

Un des Pères de l’Église (St Augustin) disait « devenez ce que vous recevez : le Corps du Christ ».

En sortant de l’Eucharistie, nous pouvons dire que Jésus est en nous et qu’il nous invite à être en Lui pendant toute la semaine. Nous ne partons pas seuls après la messe ; le Seigneur demeure en nous et il nous invite à demeurer avec lui.

Hier (15 août) nous avons célébré l’Assomption de Marie et l’Église nous présente Marie comme la femme parfaite qui a su recevoir le Fils de Dieu dans son corps et qui suivait sans hésitation les pas de son Fils pour nous montrer le chemin qui conduit vers le Christ, vers la Vie, vers Dieu.

Regardons Marie pour apprendre à demeurer dans le Christ et pour mieux comprendre le mystère de l’Eucharistie qui est le sacrement dans lequel nous devenons le Tabernacle de Dieu car le Christ fait de notre corps et de notre vie sa demeure.

Aide-nous Seigneur à respecter notre corps et à respecter le corps de nos frères car tu nous as choisis pour habiter, pour demeurer en nous et apprend nous à habiter en toi et à demeurer en toi une fois que nous quittons l’église.
