Gospel: Saint Mark 8,27-35

 

I want each of us to respond to two questions taken from the Letter of James and the Gospel of Mark that the Church proposes in the liturgy of this Sunday.
If you are able to respond today and if you don’t feel too shy, feel free to share your answers with us during this homily.
But if you need to think about it and prefer to keep your answer in the silence of your heart, I suggest you take some time this week to find a personal answer to each of the following two questions.

The first question comes directly from Jesus. All the disciples of Christ, that is, all the baptized, need to answer the following question: For me, who is Jesus?

We cannot call ourselves Christians, disciples of Jesus, or baptized, unless we know who Jesus is to us.

The second question comes from the letter of James, the Apostle. James says, “You have faith and I have works. Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works”.  

So the question that James asks today is very clear: “How do you demonstrate your faith?”

Faith is not something private, hidden or secret. For faith not to be dead, as James says in his letter, it must be visible and active.

We have that task to take home this week.

Let’s try to answer with our hearts and our minds these two questions of this Sunday’s liturgy so we can take real and needed actions to grow in our union with Christ and for our faith to become more active in society.

2ª lectura: carta de Santiago 2,14-18

Evangelio: de San Marcos 8,27-35

 

Quisiera que cada uno de nosotros respondiera a dos preguntas que voy a extraer de la Carta de Santiago y del Evangelio de San Marcos que la Iglesia nos propone en la liturgia de este domingo.

Si usted puede responder hoy,  y si no es muy tímido(a),     comparta con nosotros  su respuesta o sus respuestas, durante esta homilía.

Pero si necesita reflexionar y/o  prefiere conservar la respuesta en el silencio de su corazón, le propongo que tome  su tiempo durante esta semana que comenzamos con el domingo,  para encontrar una respuesta personal a cada una de las dos preguntas siguientes:

La primera pregunta,  viene directamente de Jesús. Todos los discípulos de Cristo, es decir, todos los bautizados, debemos responder a la siguiente pregunta.

¿Para ti, quien es Jesús?

No podemos llevar el nombre de cristianos, de discípulos de Jesús, de bautizados, si no sabemos quién es Jesús para nosotros.

La segunda pregunta la hace el apóstol Santiago en su carta. Santiago dice: “Tú tienes fe y yo tengo obras. ¿Cómo sin obras me demuestras tu fe?  Yo, en cambio, con mis obras te demostraré mi fe”.

Entonces, la pregunta que Santiago nos hace hoy es muy clara: “¿Cómo muestras tú, tu fe?”.

La fe no es algo privado, oculto o secreto. Para que la fe no sea una fe muerta, como dice Santiago en su carta, ella debe ser visible y activa.

En esta semana, tenemos esa tarea para llevar a la casa.

Tratemos de responder con nuestro corazón y con nuestra inteligencia a estas dos preguntas de la liturgia de este domingo. Tomemos medidas concretas y necesarias para crecer en nuestra unión con Cristo. Así, nuestra fe será cada día más activa en la sociedad en la que vivimos.
