24th Sunday in the Church’s time Time C Catechetical Sunday Los Angeles, September 14th /15th, 2013 1st Reading: from the Book of Exodus 32:7-11,13-14 Psalm : 50(51)3-4,12-13,17,19 2nd Reading: from the 1st Letter of St Paul to Timothy 1:12-17 Gospel: Saint Luke 15:1-32 The Church invites us this weekend to reflect on the role of catechesis in our community and in our Christian life. Let’s take this opportunity to answer three questions:
2-. Who should be a catechist and who should be catechized? 3.- What is the relationship between catechesis and the community that
gets together at church on Sundays? Catechesis is a path proposed by the Church to help all the faithful to encounter Christ and to better understand their faith. Catechesis is not simply about learning formulas or prayers. The aim of catechesis is to help us to discover the true face of Christ so that we can build a relationship of friendship, trust, and love with Him. There are children, youth, and adults who stay away from the Church just because they don’t have a catechesis suited to their age and circumstances. Today we try to provide a catechesis that can help us discover the beauty of faith and the blessing of being part of a Christian community. Through catechesis we find that the Church is a mother who intercedes for us, as Moses did for his people. In catechesis we find that God is searching for us as a shepherd who lost a sheep, as a poor widow who lost her last coin, or as a father who lost his son. Catechesis is a path that gives us the elements to get to know the true face of God, the true identity of Jesus. In catechesis we find that God is love and he rejoices whenever one of us is a step closer to Him.
2-. Who should be a catechist and who should be catechized? All the baptized should feel responsible for catechesis. We all have something to share with others about our faith. Every baptized person needs to think about how he or she is being a catechist. At the same time, we all need to be catechized. Every day, we can get closer to God through the experience of others and the teachings of the Church. Our community needs catechists and all children, youth, and adults in our parish should feel the need to get educated in the faith and to grow their relationship with Jesus so that the light and power of the Spirit of God can help us to fight evil in times of adversity.
3.- What is the relationship
between catechesis and the community that gets together at the church on
Sundays? People get together at church on Sundays as a result of catechesis and in the mass we celebrate what we have learned through catechism: that God loves us and has sent us into the world to proclaim the Good News. Aprovechemos de esta ocasión para responder a tres preguntas: 1.- ¿Qué es la catequesis? 2.- ¿Quién debe ser catequista y catequizado? 3.- ¿Qué relación existe entre la catequesis y la comunidad que se reúne el domingo en la iglesia? 1.- ¿Qué es la catequesis? La catequesis es un camino que la Iglesia propone, para ayudar a todos los fieles a conocer a Cristo y a comprender mejor la fe en Dios. En la catequesis, no se trata simplemente de aprender fórmulas u oraciones. El objetivo de la catequesis, es de ayudarnos a descubrir la verdadera imagen de Cristo para construir con Él una relación de amistad, de confianza, de amor. Hay niños, jóvenes y adultos que están lejos de la Iglesia porque no tuvieron una catequesis efectiva de acuerdo a su edad y a su situación particular. Nosotros nos hemos propuesto a ofrecer una catequesis que nos ayude a descubrir la belleza de la fe y la riqueza de pertenecer a una comunidad cristiana. En la catequesis descubrimos que la Iglesia, es como una madre que intercede por nosotros, como lo hizo Moisés por su pueblo. En la catequesis, descubrimos que Dios nos busca, como un pastor que ha perdido una oveja, o una pobre viuda que perdió su única moneda, o como un padre que ha perdido uno de sus hijos. La catequesis es un camino que nos da los elementos necesarios para conocer la verdadera imagen de Dios, la verdadera identidad de Jesús. En la catequesis descubrimos que Dios es amor y que Él se alegra cada vez que uno de nosotros da un paso para acercarse a Él. 2.- ¿Quién debe ser catequista y catequizado? Todos los bautizados deben sentirse responsables de la catequesis. Todos tenemos algo de nuestra fe para compartir con los demás. Cada bautizado debe interrogarse sobre su función como catequista a su alrededor. Al mismo tiempo, todos necesitamos ser catequizados. Todos los días, podemos acercarnos más a Dios, gracias a la experiencia de los demás y a las enseñanzas de la Iglesia. Nuestra comunidad necesita catequistas y todos los niños, jóvenes y adultos de nuestra parroquia, deben sentir la necesidad de instruir su fe y de crecer en la relación con Jesús, para que en el día de la dificultad o de la adversidad, la luz y la fuerza del Espíritu de Dios, pueda ayudarnos a luchar contra el mal. 3.- ¿Qué relación existe entre la catequesis y la comunidad que se reúne el domingo en la iglesia? La catequesis debe conducirnos a la celebración dominical. Todo lo que la catequesis nos aporta, debe ayudarnos a comprender que somos el Cuerpo de Cristo. Que la presencia de Cristo en la tierra depende de la visibilidad de nuestras comunidades y del amor que tengamos los unos para con los otros. La reunión dominical es el fruto de la catequesis, en la misa celebramos lo que aprendemos en la catequesis: Dios nos ama y nos envía al mundo a anunciar esta Buena Nueva. Amen P. Germán |
