1^st Reading: from the Book of Numbers 11:25-29

The liturgy of this Sunday invites us to reflect on the presence of the Holy Spirit in our world.

In the first reading we hear a wish from Moses: “Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his Spirit on them all!”

And some centuries later, Jesus states: “…There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us...”

Thanks to the presence of Jesus on earth, and the coming of the Holy Spirit into the world, we can say that all the baptized have received the Spirit of God.

The Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles during Pentecost, and they have passed it on to us through the sacraments.

Each time we receive a sacrament the Church passes on the presence, strength, light, and joy of the Holy Spirit.

We are a nation of prophets and the first good news we announce to our brothers and sisters is that the Spirit of God is in our world and lives in the hearts of all men and women of goodwill.

We Christians, we the baptized, know that we have received the Holy Spirit in the sacraments and we also know that there are men and women in the world who are not part of the Christian family and who, through God’s grace and benevolence, have also received the Holy Spirit.

We are a nation of prophets and, in addition to announcing the good news; we have received the Spirit of God to work for justice.

The apostle James reminds us how dangerous money is when it has not been earned honestly and when it is used to dominate others.

Baptized, let’s be prophets to announce to all our brothers and sisters that in their hearts lives the Spirit of God.

Baptized, let’s be prophets to work with all men and women of goodwill for justice and for the wellbeing of all humankind.

1ª lectura: del libro de los Números 11,25-29

Salmo: 18, 8.10.12-13.148

2ª lectura: carta de Santiago 5,1-6

Evangelio: de San Marcos 9, 38-43.45.47-48

 

La liturgia de este domingo nos invita a reflexionar sobre la presencia del Espíritu Santo en nuestro mundo.

En la primera lectura, escuchamos el deseo de Moisés: “Ojalá que todo el pueblo de Dios fuera profeta y descendiera sobre todos ellos el Espíritu del Señor”.

Y algunos siglos más tarde, Jesús declara: “… No hay ninguno que haga milagros en mi nombre, que luego sea capaz de hablar mal de mí. Todo  aquél que no está contra nosotros, está a nuestro favor.”

Gracias a la presencia de Jesús en la tierra y a la venida del Espíritu Santo al mundo, podemos afirmar que todos los bautizados han recibido el Espíritu de Dios.

El Espíritu Santo descendió sobre los Apóstoles, el día de Pentecostés, y ellos nos lo han transmitido por medio de los sacramentos.

Cada vez que recibimos un sacramento, la Iglesia nos transmite la presencia, la fuerza, la luz y la alegría del Espíritu Santo.

Nosotros somos un pueblo de profetas y la primera Buena Nueva que debemos anunciar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas, es que el Espíritu de Dios está en nuestro mundo y habita el corazón de todos los hombres y mujeres de buena voluntad.

Los cristianos, nosotros los bautizados,  sabemos que hemos recibido el Espíritu Santo en los sacramentos.

También sabemos que en el mundo hay hombres y mujeres que no forman  parte de la familia cristiana y que por gracia y por  la bondad de Dios han recibido, también ellos (ellas) el Espíritu Santo.

Nosotros somos un pueblo de profetas y además de anunciar la Buena Nueva, hemos recibido el Espíritu de Dios para trabajar por la justicia.

El apóstol Santiago nos recuerda lo peligroso que es el dinero, cuando no ha sido ganado honestamente y cuando es utilizado para dominar a los demás.

Bautizados, seamos profetas para anunciar a todos nuestros hermanos y hermanas que el Espíritu de Dios habita en su corazón.

Bautizados, seamos profetas para trabajar con todos los hombres y  mujeres de buena voluntad por la justicia y por el   bienestar de toda la humanidad.
