Gospel:
Saint John 21:1-19 or 21:1-14
For the third time, the risen Christ appears to his disciples.
According to the Gospel, the disciples had been up all night fishing
without being able to catch a single fish.
We can imagine their sadness and exhaustion. Fishing was their job,
their only way to earn a living. The disciples had worked all night trying to
catch some fish to no avail.
After such failure, they had planned to return home, but by the time
they were preparing to leave empty handed the risen Christ appears.
The Risen Lord invites them to try once again. It is as if Christ had
said, “Don’t get discouraged. Try again with my help.”
When we no longer have strength, when fatigue and failure are ahead of
us, this passage of the Gospel should enlighten us and prevent us from falling
into depression, negativity or passivity.
The Risen Christ invites us to get up, to continue the journey, to go a
little further and to try again and again.
The Lord only asks us to trust. Despite repeated failures, fatigue or lack of
energy, we must always have the presence of the Risen Lord in our midst and the
strength of the Holy Spirit.
Those who trust the risen Christ and are guided by the light of the Holy
Spirit get to do things they’d never imagined.
During this Easter season, when the Church reminds
us that the risen Christ is living among us, let’s open our hearts to the
Lord's presence and to his voice that guides us on the path of truth and
happiness.
During this Easter season, let’s try to discover the presence of Christ
in our lives. Let’s share with him our sorrows and pains, our joys and
blessings.
During this Easter season, let’s hear the Word of God who invites us to throw
again the nets and to fight against the lack of strength, courage, and
motivation in our work and in our relationships with those who live around us.
Amen.
